Extremely disappointed., May 1, 2007
Let me start off by describing my skin. I live in Florida but even with the amount of sun, I'm still a pale person. I also have a slight red undertone on the sides of my face. I do occasionally get acne and have a few scars on the sides of my face and a couple on the bottom of my chin.
Second, let me explain why I bought this kit in the first place. I've been using drugstore brands of foundation/concealer for years. I haven't found anything that a)doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing a mask and b) actually does a good job of covering my scars and balancing my skin color. I had heard about this kit from makeup sites and had seen the infomercial and decided, yeah, it's expensive.. but if it works, it'll be worth it. So I went ahead and bought it.
Now let me go over everything you get in the kit. First, the box the makeup comes in is lovely and absolutely well made. I thought the well made box would mean that the makeup inside was of good quality (turns out, I was wrong). Second, you get a dvd that explains how to apply the makeup. I watched the dvd before applying it the first time and basically found out that there's no right way to apply it. If your skin is oily, you might want to put the mineral veil on before the actual makeup. If you have normal skin, it's ok to put the mineral veil on after. It depends on your skin type and what kind of coverage you need.
Now onto the "accessories". The skin rev-er upper is a clear liquid that you put on before your moisturizer. I have to admit, I don't know what it's supposed to do (the bottle says that it smooths your skin but this isn't necessarily true for my skin) but even though I don't use the BE makeup anymore, I still use the skin rev-er upper anyway. One thing I did notice is that it makes your imperfections (redness, scars, dark spots, etc.) more noticeable. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Next, let's go over the brushes. The set comes with three brushes, a concealer brush, what I call a "blush" brush, and a kabuki brush. These brushes are great (although I don't have any other brushes of the same type to compare them to). They're soft and do a pretty good job of applying the makeup. These are another part of the kit that I still use even tough I don't use the actual BE makeup anymore.
Now onto the makeup. This particular set comes with two shades of foundation/concealer (light and fairly light). I first started using light because I felt as though the fairly light color (and I call it a color because they don't resemble normal skin color at all) would a) look too light on my skin and b) not do a good job of covering up my blemishes. I wore the light foundation for about a week and thought it did a great job of covering my blemishes until I actually looked at myself in a mirror with non-artificial light. I was orange. My blemishes were covered but my skin was orange. Ok... so I switched foundations and started using the fairly light one instead. It didn't do a great job of covering my spots but at least I wasn't orange, right? Actually, the fairly light foundation made my skin yellow. And it's easy to say that this was because I didn't blend correctly or I didn't blend enough. Well, considering that I followed the instructions on the dvd and I blended for 5 minutes each time I applied it, I would say that I did blend it correctly/enough. As for the "warmth", it is WAY too dark for my skin color. I hardly used any (usually I would just open the warmth jar, tap the lid into the actual jar several times, and use whatever was left in the lid). The mineral veil does a semi-ok job when it comes to keeping the makeup on your skin for more than an hour but other than that, it doesn't do much of anything.
So here's a list of pros and cons...
Pros:
-I LOVED that it didn't feel like I was wearing makeup. It truly feels like your own skin even though your blemishes are covered.
-The brushes are pretty good.
-The mineral veil is a bonus.
Cons:
-Turned my skin different colors.
-It's expensive.
-Warmth is too dark.
Here's the bottom line. Why would anyone pay $60 for makeup that doesn't work? Let's face it. Not everyone has the same skin color/type. You can't have only two shades of foundation and say "Here, one of these should work on your skin". That's why you see dozens of shades of foundations at your local drugstore. At least the cheapy makeup manufacturers know that you must get a foundation that closely resembles your skin color. A few of the things included in this kit are gimmicky. They either don't work at all or just barely work. I heard about a MUCH cheaper brand of mineral makeup (they only sell their makeup online.. do a google search and you can probably figure out which one I'm talking about) that allows you to choose from dozens of different colors and they ACTUALLY WORK. I'm thrilled with this cheaper brand and will be using it from now on. I must say that if I learned one thing from buying this kit, it's that mineral makeup is amazing. I'll still be using the brushes that came with the kit and maybe the skin rev-er upper and mineral veil every now and then (just so I won't feel that it was a total loss). Do yourself a favor and TRY this before you buy it (if you can) or go for a cheaper version instead.

Far and away the most awful makeup I've ever tried!, May 16, 2008
Just to give you some background in case you have a similar skin type.... I have medium/large pores on my nose and part of my cheeks, and a few fine lines, some small pimples here and there but for the most part my acne is confined to just small colorless bumps (except for when I used this product). My skin is pretty oily, usually shiny in the t-zone by the end of the work-day no matter what I wear. It's a little more reddish around my nose and across my cheeks than the rest of my face, and mildly sensitive.
When I first put the foundation on it didn't look bad, but give it about an hour and watch as the makeup magically seeps into every pore and wrinkle on my face!! I can now count my pores without getting even remotely close to a mirror! The mineral veil doesn't matte my skin enough so I felt that I I looked pretty greasy from the beginning, however that might just be me since I like a REALLY matte finish. After that first hour once everything has slid around I looked like I hadn't washed my face in days. It doesn't absorb oil at all. I've tried a lot of regular foundation/powder combinations over the years and I have to say that this one allowed me to get oily faster than any I can ever remember using. It could not keep me shine free for even 1 hour. The product made my face itch like crazy, though I was told that this would subside, I couldn't take more than a week of it. I wanted to tear my skin off it itched so bad. I have since been told that it's the bismuth that makes a lot of people itch and that other mineral based foundations don't have that ingredient in them. My experience with this product was so bad that I won't even consider trying another mineral make up.
The foundation evened my skin tone out a bit, but it doesn't cover blemishes at all. It does do a grand job of cakeing onto them and making them far more noticeable, so if you really want to show your pores, wrinkles, and blemishes to the world, this is definitely the product to use. I don't what sort of airbrushing/video techniques they used on the infomercial [...].
I suppose if you already have good skin or perhaps for people with dry skin/very fine pores, this would be ok. If you've got sensitive skin save your money! It was definitely NOT worth the money for me. I'll never buy this torture kit again. How exactly this stuff is supposed to be "good" for your skin it made my face raw and red and breaking out everywhere I have no idea. The experience was so bad that I tossed everything out. I wouldn't even give it away --- I don't dislike anyone enough to put them through what I went through the week I used this stuff, and then the following 2 weeks that it took me to get rid of the redness and acne flareup that it caused.

improved the condition of my skin greatly, April 8, 2007
I got this product on the recommendation of a co-worker after a loreal product gave me a nasty rash on my face. Well, after two weeks of use of the bare minerals not only is the rash gone but my skin looks bright and smoother - without any makeup even! I've been fighting dull, tired looking skin for a few years, tried all sorts of products that claimed they would brighten, rejuvanate, etc., all a waste of money. This makeup has actually done it! I can't say enough good things about this stuff. I sound like a infomercial, lol!
