3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, not essential deep house but 4-star promo free
Bare Essentials Volume 2 follows up the initial 1999 release from Naked Music, home of delectable deep house and stylishly nude slip covers. With more artists in tow this time, BE2 offers a much broader mix of previously unreleased material and new tunes to tantalize, if a bit lacking in breakout hits.

When I asked the clerk who's CD they were he showed me and I quickly bought it and the previous volume and have been hooked ever since. If you want to enjoy something silky smooth with a swirling sexy vibe on top of that this CD won't dissapoint you.

Other music CD's similar to this that I would also recommend: The Best of Nake Music-Bare Essentials Vol 2, Miguel Migs-Colorful You, Blue Six-Beautiful Tomorrow, Miguel Migs-Nude Tempo, Nude Dimensions, Nude Dimensions Vol 3 and OM Records-The United Nations of Future Music Vol 1. If you like sexy, loungy-house music without too much electronica, this collection of music is for you.

This CD and the others can best be described as an eclectic mix of deep-housey, soulful, sultry, ambient, laid back, seductive, sublime groove, with sexy down-tempo beats to to tickle your neurons.

5.0 out of 5 stars REMIXING THE FAMILIAR!!!, December 17, 2003
This review is from: Bare Essentials: Volume Two [Limited Edition] [Bonus Cd] [Amazon.com Exclusive] (Audio CD)
Bare Essential Volume 2, with its dazzling cover artwork, is yet another installment in the Naked Music series that delivers minimal house-grooves, funk and 2 step with a whole lotta soul. This time, familiar grooves like those from Blue Six, Miguel Migs, Andy Caldwell, Aquanotes and Kascade are remixed along with some other rare material from artists on the label. If you're a fan of "Nude Dimensions", "Carte Blanche", "Lost on Arrival" or any of the aformentioned artists, then this CD is worth checkin' out! Very Nice!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Naked Music Does It Yet Again., March 6, 2003

I own nearly all of the releases from Naked Music, and I can honestly say that the label's greatest strength is its consistency. CD after CD, Naked Music continues to remain unparalleled as the leading American label specializing in mature and multitextured dance music grounded in soul. Their CDs feature smooth vocals, skilled production, and grooves that are near impossible to resist. The second volume of "Bare Essentials" is no exception. Here, we run the gamut from neo-disco grooves to exercises in straight-up soul. Main attractions are the smoothed-out remix of Aquanote's "All Over You," Central Living's dynamite deep house "Inside," and Blue Six's "All I Need." Whether you want to relax in the house or entertain evening guests, this CD will do the job well. If you can get your hands on it, I recommend you grab the limited edition version, which has a bonus disc of extra tracks including winners like Gaelle's "Rain" and Project 4's "Day by Day." "Bare Essentials Volume 2" is an extremely solid effort that's worth picking up.

Trying to decide which word is best suitable to describe this CD one comes across the words euphoria, bliss, nirvana, and ecstasy. This CD is beyond mere words. Pop this baby into your CD player, and you've effectively cut yourself off from the world's problems for 70 minutes. No more stress, just the chill soulful sounds of Naked Music.

For those of you familiar with the label, Naked puts out simply the best soulful deep house sounds that can be used for meditation, dancing, or simply chilling. This versatile CD offers a new spin on Naked's favorite groups, like Aquanote, Miguel Migs, and Kaskade. The vocals don't disappoint, as their soulful sound over the deep house bass goes hand in hand perfectly.

For those of you that don't know what Naked Music really is, get yourself acquainted and sit back and enjoy the ride. This is a rare must own CD for any true music fan, not just those techno junkies that devour all things labeled trance or house. Naked once again has achieved a masterpiece release to add to its resume.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, not essential deep house but 4-star promo free, March 16, 2003
This review is from: Bare Essentials: Volume Two [Limited Edition] [Bonus Cd] [Amazon.com Exclusive] (Audio CD)

Surprisingly, the bigger names folks are familiar with (Blue Six, Miguel Migs) supply auto-pilot efforts that belies their talent, while soulful staple Lisa Shaw hits ("Visions") and misses ("Let It Ride"). The standouts are Aquanote's "Nowhere," a mellowed Heatwave Mix pushing the guitar backed Zoe Ellis line "I can tell that our love is going nowhere without you" to somber near-classic status. Likewise, Arvid featuring Ernestos livens with jazz drums for a beautifully realized song, and Kaskade/Quant's festive "Brighter Day," breathy vocals by Josyln, add pep and beach house atmosphere. A stripped down Petappusher (Miguel Migs) offers a serene closer, with flute, on "Reply on Me."

Some Minor misses pop up, primarily Central Living's simplistic lyrics and uneasy (as in, what where they thinking) bass to the batch on "Inside." A shame too, that just one instrumental made the cut (Weekender).

Regardless, the efforts here are impeccably produced; this crew knows their way around a studio. Bare Essentials 2 spins a bit too smooth to gain your attention; call it enjoyable then, just not essential. 3/5

NOTE: Exclusive to Amazon.com is an eight track 45-minute bonus CD packaged in a cardboard sleeve. Dropping the mellow vibes for a welcome return to the dance floor, this mixed offering combines a few exclusives, material from other Naked comps, and older tracks given an umpteenth remix to spruce them up a bit. Far more than just a tossed-in freebie, this is a bopping lil' set in it's own right; Satin Soul adds sprightly keyboard with punchy drums on a welcome revisit to "Music & Wine," a tasty set-up to Kaskade/Quant's festive "Brighter Day," breathy vocals by Josyln. Add quality work from Gaelle via Bugs in the Attic, and energetic beats by Project 4 (a catchy gem that peaks the hour), for a disc that heartily upstages its companion. How's that for essential? 4/5

This review is from: Bare Essentials: Volume Two [Limited Edition] [Bonus Cd] [Amazon.com Exclusive] (Audio CD)
I have every cd put out by Naked Music and this one certainly does not disappoint. I put this cd into my player and first heard a stunning remix of 'Nowhere', which for me is the best version of the song I've heard. However, it segues into an unreal song called TRY (Arvid fea. Ernesto). THIS SONG IS PAST NASTY!!! I kept hitting the repeat button, but then figured I had better stop so I can hear this rest of the cd. I'm glad I did because the rest of the cd includes one of my faves, All I Need by Andy Caldwell. The unmistakable Lisa Shaw shimmers (as always) on 'Let It Ride'. This jam is so tight, Entertainment Weekly put it on its Top Five list of grooves to have in your mix. (It's about time someone mainstream recognized!) Weekenderstyle is lush...(sigh) I could go on and on but I'm going to stop here. Go ahead and start the order process. It's a sure thing. By the way, the bonus cd has the baddest remix of Gaelle's 'Rain' that will give you whiplash or a herniated disc. (Icy Hot not included)

5.0 out of 5 stars Definately Essential, January 19, 2007
This review is from: Bare Essentials: Volume Two [Limited Edition] [Bonus Cd] [Amazon.com Exclusive] (Audio CD)
Classic deep sexy house - this has withstood the test of time more than any other Naked Music compilation. I still love to play it after all these year. The best Lisa Shaw tracks are right here and with a bonus cd of remixes - can't ask for more. If you like the deep soulful sexy sounds of Miguel Migs, if you are a fan of Julius Papp or Jay-J then this cd is in your collection.

Good music but not essential and too commercial. Nice song of Andy Caldwell beautiful of the Weekender, the rest a little anonimus. In any case professional voices (most female) are present in this CD. Each track it's so similar to the previus one. Frankly speaking the product it's not a chilly it's not a soul-funky-jazz ...it's a dance floor cd to far from the downtempo compilations that i like.
