Simon,

You rock mate! Anyone in sales can get their money's worth by reading your book! For the price of a pizza and a six pack it's well worth the investment.

I really enjoyed your "Instant Reverse" and "Reality Check" methods of dealing with price objections.

You've done your homework mate, I give you 5 Stars and wish you the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book on selling that ANYONE can use!, June 6, 2006

This review is from: Bare Knuckle Selling: Knockout Sales Tactics They Won't Teach You At Business School (Paperback)
I bought this book because I had bought Hazeldine's other book "Bare Knuckle Negotiating" and used it to save a fortune when I was buying a new house. I'm not in sales but I found this book easy to understand and use. The author uses lots of anecdotes and stories to show how easy it is to persuade people. You don't have to be in sales to benefit hugely from what this guy has to say. The author puts forward a strong case for why you need to be able to sell and be able to negotiate - he succeed with me as I've bought both his books!

This is really practical usable stuff and its nice to get the inside track on how how really good salespeople go about getting people to buy things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Benefits for both the novice and experienced seller..., March 14, 2010
This review is from: Bare Knuckle Selling: Knockout Sales Tactics They Won't Teach You At Business School (Paperback)
In Bare Knuckle Selling, Simon offers you an opportunity to understand the selling process from tip to tail. His writing style is easily understood and provides a wealth of detail that allows you to apply his techniques to any situation.

Simon begins his efforts by offering multiple methods of gaining a further understanding of your customers and ensuring you that are meeting their needs. As my own consulting experience includes corporate development of Customer Experience models, I'm particularly fond of this customer centered approach.

He further benefits the reader by giving a lucid and useable description of basic NLP methods for developing rapport. In doing so, the reader gains an understanding of how their demeanor and approach can make all the difference when going for the close.

The bottom line is that Bare Knuckle Selling will benefit both the novice and experienced seller.

Great book on selling. Not just the same old platitudes we've heard before, but fresh new ideas. Hazeldine blends real-world stories with solid principles that help to generate bottom-line results. I've read hundreds of sales books. This one is a must-read as it offers some fresh perspectives on how to get through and sell more effectively. Terry Brock, Orlando, FL

4.0 out of 5 stars Specific and Versatile Sales Method, Especially For Consultants and Sales Trainers. Practical And Easily Absorbed, March 24, 2010

This review is from: Bare Knuckle Selling: Knockout Sales Tactics They Won't Teach You At Business School (Paperback)
BareKnuckle Selling is enjoyable and well-written.
It reads pretty fast. Not a heavy book nor difficult
to absorb.

I have to confess I was underwhelmed for the first
50 or so pages where the author paraphrased a lot
of introduction to sales and persuasion information
found in lots of books. I considered not reading
on in fact because the information was so general
and familiar to me. Beyond page 50 or so the writer
goes fairly deep, in a succinct way, into his selling
method - which is sensible, energetic, and has loads
of applicability in selling to today's overstimulated
and time-stressed customers.

The author discusses a wide range of practical tactics
and things you need to think about to increase your sales
skills. None of it is rocket science, but as with all
skills it takes desire and practice to internalize new
refinements.

(I've reached the point perhaps where most books on
selling and persuasion are repetitious for me.
Repetition is useful however in internalizing skills,
as is the perspective of different authors.)

The selling approach described here is an unscripted form
of controlled persuasion. It's similar to the S.P.I.N.
selling system, though less complicated and probably
easier to learn. Pretty much the spin system and similar
selling approached emphasize asking lots of questions

Hazeldine makes some useful distinctions about types of
questions, what they are useful for and at what point
in the process. He also diagrams the selling process
in an elegant way I hadn't seen before.

There's an accessible smattering of non-theoretical NLP
tactics which shouldn't be too hard for most salespeople
to start using. The author mostly writes from the
point-of-view of face-to-face selling - so even while
he emphasizes effective listening and asking probing
questions, his methods also include watching non-verbal
cues and body language.

So - if you sell on the phone some of the stuff here
won't be so useful to you. There are quite a few very
practical NLP-influenced language patterns.

All in all, Bareknuckle Selling contains lots of
practical, real-world selling tips and outlines a systems
of selling you could adapt and fill-in the blanks with.
Like most books of this type, this one has an advertisement
in the back for the author's training seminars.

This book particularly interested me because I am
a marketing consultant and many of the examples pertained
to selling "increase your sales" stuff to businesses,
which is what I need to do. Hazeldine is more of a sales
guy and I'm a marketing guy, but in this book the
strategies shown would work for either sort of thing.
This is a contrast to Dave Lakhani's recent (and pretty good)
book, "How To Sell When Nobody's Buying" which is so
strongly rooted in Lakhani's experiences selling
corporate sales training it's a little hard to grasp
how to adapt the methods to other niches. That isn't
a problem with Hazeldine's book at all - his style of
selling comes across as breezy and adaptable and not
overly slanted towards one segment of the B2B sales
environment.

If you sell sales training, websites, marketing makeovers,
advertising and such "profit motivated" business-to-business
services I think you'll get some juicy insights from this book.
Some of the stuff here is killer for selling straight to
consumers spending their own money too - an area where
many B2B selling books (and methods) fall flat.

I really enjoyed this book. I found it very entertaining as well as highly educational. The author uses some really cool acronyms such as :
For goal setting SMASH: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Stretching, Holistic.
For four types of questions to ask when selling COPS: Closed, Open, Probing, Summarizing.
He also tells some interesting stories to illustrate points. I really enjoyed the one on the Great Dane.
I highly recommend this book to any sales organization as a useful manual as an aid on increasing performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars knuckles, March 11, 2010
This review is from: Bare Knuckle Selling: Knockout Sales Tactics They Won't Teach You At Business School (Paperback)
One of the first things that set Bare Knuckle Selling apart from other books is how well this book is structured. Often, authors tend to go off in a tangent and lose the reader very fast. The author, in this book, has set out what he calls `The Ten Steps of Bare Knuckle Selling'. Thereafter, he keeps to this structure and it helps keep the reader `grounded' throughout. The method of selling that this author advocates is one that strikes the balance between closing the deal (which makes the seller feel good) and giving something of value to the customer (which makes the buyer feel good). The examples shared are personal, practical and can be used by anyone to sell anything. This book is worth every penny.
