5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool & great deal if you already have the battery
The tool itself: if you've only driven screws with a drill/driver before, you won't believe the difference. Screws go in like they're going into soft butter. Virtually eliminates cam-out of phillips or square drive screws. And it's a lot smaller than a drill-driver - gets in where they can't.

I ordered the bare factory-reman tool 'cuz I already had...

3.0 out of 5 stars Older model
I paid $104 for this impact driver which was not too bad. However, I saw it in a hardware store (not a discount place) for $99. But what really got me was that the $99 one was a newer model with a light. This was a third party seller, and they are selling out of date products.

I ordered the bare factory-reman tool 'cuz I already had batteries and charger for the drill - about a third the cost of a new one with all accessories. The way to go if you already have the 18V batteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this tool!!, August 23, 2007

I can not believe how easy this puts screws into wood. So much better than a regular drill. I am not a string guy and I have trouble getting a screw started into plywood. This tool makes it so easy I can do it.

Purchased the DeWalt inpact for myself and co-worker. Absolutely love it. Should have purchased a long time ago. Recommend the drill chuck if you plan on drilling through any metal or use larger spade bit in wood. Eliminates torque on wrist when bit grabs like a standard drill causes.
Only down side (if you call this a down side) is it is too powerfull and when putting in screws it is easy to strip them out.

4.0 out of 5 stars would have been five stars if...., October 28, 2007

If it came with a case, it would have been perfect. I just got done putting in over 200 SDS screws a 4x10 beam. Our corded impact gun was not working, so I used this. One of the guys said that it might be too big of a job, but we were all amazed that they went in EASILY! Impact is the way of the future....I also think that a LiIon battery tool is next for me...

I owned a repair shop for many years. I have used all kinds of air powered impact guns. Some have been very impressive but they always had the air hose to drag along. This tool has no hose and gives you the option of using any of the accessories that has a 1/4 inch hex end. That includes screw driver bits, socket drivers and even drill bits. Put a masonry bit in and now you have the real hammer drill! It takes a fraction of the holding force to drive a screw. Just pay attention because it will keep driving as long as you pull the trigger. I wouldn't recommend it, but I took tires off my car with it. That's strong. And it is smaller than a cordless drill so it fits in many more tight places. If you are into fixing things in a hurry, this is the tool for you. And since I already owned the battery from other tools the price was better because I didn't have to buy the 2 extra batteries, charger and case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelieveable, March 30, 2008
I was talked into getting this by a salesperson. I was sure I would regret buying it as soon as I committed to doing so.
The first time I used it i thought it was wonderful. Since then it has NEVER let me down.
I was happy with my 18 volt dewalt drill. I used it A LOT. However since purchasing this tool 5 months ago I suspect I can count on both hands the number of times I have used the drill. I ALWAYS reach for this tool first.
Compared to the drill it is lighter, more powerful, faster, and just plain all around better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough, September 3, 2011
This review is from: Bare-Tool DEWALT DW056B 18-Volt Cordless Impact Driver (Tool Only, No Battery) (Misc.)
When I purchased my first Impact 5 years ago, I was quite impressed by the tool that a another worker from another construction company was using. Just a great tool for screws. Lightyears better than using a cordless drill and a phillips bit. Lighter, faster, stronger and much more compact. At the time I was a foreman for a concrete company, and we had formwork that we used it for every day. After a month or so, I need a second one. Two years ago I changed to being a farmer and the driver was what we needed to dismantle a grain dryer we had bought and needed to disassemble. The two guns I purchased were up to the task, quite easily handling the 10,000 plus 5/16 and 3/8 bolts that held the dryer together. This year when it was time to assemble the dryer the guns were again up to the task, performing flawlessly. I feared that one might fail me because of their age and the sheer volume of bolts these guns have handled. In a day we might go through 4 or 5 batteries, and the impact mechanism is quite hot to the touch at times, but still working perfectly.
One of them took a fall form 45 feet or so last fall. The battery came off and launched 4' into the back of a truck sitting nearby, the gun landed elsewhere. I clicked the battery back in and pulled the trigger. Worked perfectly. The battery case had a dent and a crack, but a year later and many thousands screws and bolts later, both are still going strong.
I have finally begun to start replacing batteries that are no longer taking a charge, but these batteries have out performed my expectations. 5 or more years, daily to weekly use, and periods of multiple charges per day. I have had all Milwaukee tools for many years always counting on their quality and durability, but was disappointed with the life of the ni-cd Milwaukee batteries. When I decided to purchase an impact driver, Milwaukee did not even offer a 1/4" hex impact driver. It took a leap of faith for me to shell out the $269 that I spent for my first impact driver. Less than a year later after all the Milwaukee tool batteries gave up the ghost, I switched to DeWalt cordless tools and have never looked back.

This was my husband's number one item on his wish list this Christmas. He's a contractor and loves his Dewalt tools. He is very happy with it, it is everything he expected, and seems satisfied. I was glad that it was sold without the battery pack, as he already owns half a dozen 18v batteries from other Dewalt tools, so another was just an added expense we didn't need. Delivery was fast, although now I wish I didn't pay for express delivery, it arrived well ahead of Christmas, and probably would have gotten here anyway without paying extra.

This tool is a must have. I have owned several cordless drills, but am impact driver puts them all to shame. I reach for it every time over my other DeWalt cordless drill. I don't know how I ever lived without it.
