5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, this cost less than a good set of blades for it!
I own several cordless reciprocating saws, a 36 volt DeWalt, 18 volt DeWalt, a Milwaukee 18 volt and a Milwaukee 18 volt "hatchet". They are all great tools. They have a feeling of quality when you turn them on.
The Denali feels and sounds a little crude by comparison. I have only had the Denali a couple of days, but I have to say using the same Milwaukee and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Garbage
Bought this in a combo, and worked okay for a little bit. The first issue I had was that the blade chuck (or whatever you call it) came loose after one battery discharge. This meant that I had to take the plastic casing off of the tool to tighten the screws...not a big deal...but a pain (they loosened again, but i used some loc tite to prevent a third dissasembly)...

This review is from: Bare-Tool Denali 565046 18-Volt Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought this in a combo, and worked okay for a little bit. The first issue I had was that the blade chuck (or whatever you call it) came loose after one battery discharge. This meant that I had to take the plastic casing off of the tool to tighten the screws...not a big deal...but a pain (they loosened again, but i used some loc tite to prevent a third dissasembly). Six months after purchase, the tool started to make horrible grinding sounds, and would not operate. From what I could tell, the main reciprocal gearing had become stripped, and the tool would no longer work. It has since been trashed, and been replaced (for now) with a Ryobi cordless and a Dewalt corded that have not had any issues as of this posting.

I would look elsewhere for this type of tool, unless you would be using it very lightly...

I have only had the Denali a couple of days, but I have to say using the same Milwaukee and Dewalt blades that I use in my other saws it cuts wood as good as anything I own. I don't know how long it will last, but for what it cost I can buy 4 or 5 of them for the price of an industrial rated name brand tool. I think it is the perfect homeowner saw.

I was impressed enough by its performance that I bought 2 more to have as spares. I know that is nuts but they were very inexpensive.

I used this saw yesterday with a 9" Bosch metal cutting blade to reach behind wall studs and cut the sheathing nails and also to cut the heavy framing nails thet had been used to "sister" the wall studs at this location. This type of use realy puts a strain on the tool. Pushing a 9" blade between a couple of 2x4's creates a lot of drag as does pushing it between the tightly nailed sheathing and the back side of the wall stud with the blade bent at about 45 degrees. I am pleased to say it worked great. Plenty of power and it quickly cut all the connecting nails.

So far I have worn out 3 Milwaukee demolition blades using this saw to do overhead cutting of plaster over plaster board with embedded expanded metal reinforcing. I have worn the teeth completly off the blades but the saw is holding up well so far and sems to have a lot of power. Battery life is better than I expected, considering the amount of work being done.

All Denali Tools have been fantastic, the only concern is longevity. i bought this, used it and loved it so i bought 2 more. i figure at $14 i can buy 5 before i have even touched a dewalt (even then i still have some more money to spend). the blade is par at best, buy good blades and the tool performs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unforgivable, August 10, 2009

A year after I bought the entire Denali 18v set, the BATTERIES ARE UNAVAILABLE. And the helpful little note from Amazon reads: "not sure if or when this item will be available." Amazon, this is absolutely unforgivable. At the very least, a responsible company would tell us if some other battery will fit the tool. And yet, Amazon still sells the 18v tools as "bare-tool," with no warning that batteries aren't available! And, yeah, after a year, the batteries (I have 2) are pretty much shot. The tool sure used to work nice back when it had batteries, though! I feel sorry for the dude that bought extras.

This product comes with no battery and there's no way to get batteries for this saw. I even did a googles search for the batteries to no avail. The manufacture should not be selling products that the customers will not be able to operate.

5.0 out of 5 stars A steal, January 7, 2011

at $12 with free shipping, the item is basically free. (Just pay shipping).
I don't recommend buying the battery/charger here because it is much cheaper else where on the web. The batteries also are not strong or last long (unless you 'zap' the NiCd frequently).

Saw will work fine when attached to any 12v battery (car battery, booster battery,12v nicd).
Although at 12v, you will be running at 8amps (instead of about 5 amps with 18v), so overheating is a long-term issue. I bought two and still love it. Works in my garden or on the road. Can cut bike chains, clubs, locks , and anything metal.

As a tip, the battery by Denali is not available. But 18V batteries by Master Mechanic and Drill Master are compatible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good tool but blade holder isn't that great, October 14, 2010

This review is from: Bare-Tool Denali 565046 18-Volt Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
For the price it's a good tool. Of course the price wasn't much when I bought it. It seems to run a little strong and you can have trouble starting a cut. The blade holder leaves a lot to be desired. I also had trouble with the screws that hold the blade holder on vibrating loose. I'll have to take it apart and reinstall the screws with Locktite screw Locker. I think this may be the case with inexpensive tools. you very often have to semi-rebuild them. But as I said before, for the price, they're almost giving them away. I recommend it for the price, just heed what I said. There's two screws that hold the blade holder to the reciprocating shaft which is under the rubber boot at the front. You'll have to push that back and use locktite on the screws and put them back in and you shouldn't have any trouble.

An under rated brand. Saw has been useful in cutting rusty nails, is excellent for fast wood cutting. I had his for 2 months with no trouble.
