Excellent Drill!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bare-Tool Hitachi DS18DLP4 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Driver Drill (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had one of these in the kit form for over 2 years and it hasn't failed me yet in the field. I have dropped it off ladders, bored lotsa holes and it looks well abused. The main thing is the batteries seem to be still holding their charge unlike the nicads and NiMH I have used in the past. Also the drill itself is working great as well. I really like the metal chuck and heft so I bought another one to replace another drill (14.4v Bosch) I rarely use cause I am using this one. Like the older drill the chuck seems well centered unlike the Bosch (out, new). I also have some of the Dewalt 18 volt tools that have their merits. If you buy this tool I recommend the 3.0AH batteries. I am planning to get some of the other tools (Impact Screw driver, jig saw) and one more with batteries for a total of 4 that should get me through a day or two. Using the side handle is a good idea on this drill. The Bosch will be retired for household duty for my father.

Hitachi 18V Lithium-Ion Drill Driver-The Best!,

This review is from: Bare-Tool Hitachi DS18DLP4 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Driver Drill (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
After running the gamut of cordless tool usages for 30 years, I've Finally Arrived! Let's see, from drills of 3.6, 7.2, 12, 14.4, 15.6, 18 and 19.2 Volts, only the C19.2 had meet most of my drilling-driving needs. However, there always were power issues dealing with run times and battery storage of my NiMH batteries. I've been holding out and watching the new battery technologies develop, especially the Lithium-Ion systems. Consistent Drilling Torques, Long Lasting Shelf Life Power, Quick Charging, High Current Output, Longer Life Cycles and Lower Weight really makes the Li-Ions desirable, for Pros or the Homeowner. I decided to take the plunge and outfit my shop cordless tool selections with this new battery technology.
I researched all of the newest cordless Li-Ion products on the market and found the HITACHI 18V 3.0 Ah HXP tool systems to be unbeatable in most categories. They cost less then most of the other professional brands of great cordless tools. I actually picked up this Hitachi 1\2" DS18DL Drill Driver in a 2-piece combo set (with Impact, Charger & 2-3.0 Ah HXP Batteries) here on Amazon, a Great Value compared to an individual purchase. I've not been disappointed! You can look up specs and read other reviews, but I can safely say that this Cordless Hitachi Drill is Absolutely SOLID in use! The Hitachi DS18DL Drill Driver has leading class torque (570in\lbs) and is the top rated 18V Li-Ion in many on-line reviews, seeming to equal my corded drills in raw power. With the 4-speed selection and smooth torque settings, I can apply the right amount of action I need. The drill is Smooth and light, but feels very solid with perfect balance and great ergonomics. I've hand-held all of the top pro 18V Li-Ion drills...this Hitachi fits the Best! The 3.0Ah Li-Ion batteries give the Drill plenty of run time, allowing me to tackle all of my DIY projects. Plus, Hitachi now offers a LIFETIME Cordless Li-Ion HXP Tool Warranty...Can't beat that!! Overall, these are the most powerful, well built, quiet and ergonomic cordless tools I have ever come across! The Hitachi 18V 3Ah HXP tool system is Very Close to the Power and Torque of my pro corded tools, but with a Lot More in the way of Convenience (No Cords)! These Hitachi cordless tools are No Slouches and can hold their own against any of the other pro competition. I've also been well pleased with my 18V Impact-Driver, Circular Saw and Reciprocating Saw cordless tools from Hitachi!! All feel great and work as well in my hands as any of the top corded power tools I own. However, this Hitachi drill Is the strongest unit of them all and a Welcomed sight after 30 years of cordless frustrations and disappointments! I'll keep my corded pro drills, but only as -backups- to this excellent Hitachi cordless drill system!!!

This review is from: Bare-Tool Hitachi DS18DLP4 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Driver Drill (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
Excellent hammer drill. Great torque. Good battery life and relatively fast but noisy charger. Dropped from 20ft ladder and cracked the neck; duct taping it together and it works. Finally plan to replace it and will get get a new bare unit as the batteries still work well after 2 years of abuse. Light does not position itself so you can see what you are drilling, it is nearly useless. Best feature major torque, concrete 1/2 steel plate no overheating. It will not hold very small/fine drills in chuck but it is best in hard torque jobs. Just screwed in a thousand square head 3 inch screws in deck without problem. It was as good as my electrics with high torque.
