Smooth operator. I love this Makita saw. It has served me well. I use it for many different things from cutting 2x material to cutting trim and hardwoods. The stock blade is ok and will last a little while. I have freud blades in mine and love the silky smooth operation and consistent power.

The blade guard rarely gets in the way and is easy to to raise. The bevel and depth adjustments are easy to reach and operate and hold well. The sole plate is sturdy and maintains its position well. The LED light is a nice touch. It only comes on while the trigger is depressed unlike Makita's cordless drills which have a slow ramping off feature that slowly dims the LED after the trigger is released which makes for a nice flashlight. I guess you shouldn't be expecting to use your cordless saw as a light source anyway.

The battery last a long while on a full charge. You can saw thru a good amount of wood with a thin kerf blade. I've cut over 50 2x6's on a single charge.

I've had mine for over a year now and it's been a dream to use. I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

I bought 2 of these for cutting strapping and 2'X4''s for framing shrink wrapped boats. Saves big time and with a good blade cuts great. highly recommend

This powerful, little saw is extremely convenient, especially for small jobs where pulling out a larger saw is a pain. Its light weight, size, and battery life make it very good for prolonged work, expecially in tight quarters and with elevated work. It would be nice if there were more types of blades available for it.

Nice saw. Very strong motor and it cuts about everything. Got only 4 stars as I am replacing a 9.6v Makita saw and this one is considerable larger. Size is the only downside so far.

As it happens the arbor size is not listed anywhere, here or at [...]. After I bought it I found that it is an odd size of 5/8 for which blades are not made by any other company. Only one type 16 tooth blade is made by Makita and priced accordingly. I wish I read the review of Makita BSS501 at [...]
