This review is from: Bare-Tool Milwaukee 2410-20 M12 12-Volt 3/8-Inch Drill/Driver (Tool Only, No Battery) (Tools & Home Improvement)
I can't believe sometimes what this drill is capable of.
Pros: - Will drill through pressure-treated 2X4's with a 7/8" paddle bit no problem - Has 2nd gear for high-speed jobs like buffing - Will drive 3" deck screws into pressure-treated without a pilot hole - Decent battery life, but better always keep one on the charger - Batteries and charger (not incl.) are lightweight and fit in toolbox well - Battery meter on side - Feels solid - Has clutch (not as accurate as the one on the sub-compact driver though) - Price is right Cons: - A little top heavy, but still a pleasure to use - 2nd gear doesn't have much torque (maybe it could be geared a little closer to 1) - Chuck makes a slamming noise when you abruptly stop the drill - Ratcheting mechanism isn't strong enough to keep the chuck closed when you repeatedly start & stop the drill - Battery must be fully (and recently) charged to deliver full torque I use this product for work, not every single day and usually not for huge jobs. It will do the big jobs, but for really big screws, pre-drill just for good measure. It's easier to pre-drill then drive a screw in too fast and crack the lumber or bind up the drill. This drill will get into tight spaces, has the power to do what you ask it and the batteries are light. I have this, a sub-compact driver and three batteries. The sub-compact driver I use for assembling and disassembling machines as it has a wonderful clutch on it that is very fine and accurate. Between the two tools, if I always keep a battery on the charger, I never have to stop. DOES NOT REPLACE YOUR 18 VOLT DRILL. Bottom line: Tough enough for everyday use, but it won't do an 18 volt's job. FOLLOW UP: September 20, 2010: Been using it for a while now, yesterday used it to replace broken electric fence insulators. Does the job just fine, I still love it, I'd still give it 5/5 stars.

For its size and weight, this drill is the bomb! Your not going to drive 3" deck screws with this drill all day, although it will sink one into pine with no pilot hole. For light to medium duty, this drill/driver is great. It fits in your tool box or your tool belt, is very light for overhead work. It's battery lasts a fairl long time. I'm not throwing out my 18volt drill, but this drill does most of the work in my shop.

An excellent addition to my Milwaukee M12 tools. Since I already have extra batteries from other purchases, I was able to purchgase this tool without the battery. I have used the tool for several projects and the battery charge indicator on the tool still shows a full charge. Like my other M12 tools, the unit is lightweight and powerfull. The adjustable torque and two speed settings, as well as forward and reverse, are very useful. In all, a great cordless tool.

I have had this drill now for about a month and it is now my go to drill/driver over my 18v dewalt, hitachi, or bosch for around the house tasks. The drill has a locking chuck and enough torque to get most any job done. Excellent product from milwaukee.

Great tool. Light and powerful. If you already have another, no sense in buying an extra charger and battery when you can get the tool cheap. I've used these and am totally sold on M-12 tools.

By far the nicest drill I have owned. I like the speed selector coupled with the variable speed trigger. This makes it really easy to go back and forth between a drill and a screwdriver. I use the battery from my M-12 jacket liner, so I only had to buy the drill itself.

The Milwaukee M12 tools are remarkably nice, professional grade (my carpenter uses one), and light weight. There are many other tools available in the M12 line and high capacity batteries are available. (A high capacity battery added to this tool makes a nice stand for it). The ratcheting chuck to help lock onto drill bits appears to work well. The battery level indicator and work light are nice to have.
I thought the price I paid (about $65) was good for this bare too.

This is the fourth edition of my M12 family of tools. This new unit allows me to use regular drill bits and the chuck appears to lock avoiding slippage. Also the form (size) and function will be an advantage to the homeowner or pro.
I like the Milwaukee's because they have a tradesman angle unlike other brands.

I own several M12 tools and with the size of the battery I don't expect heavy duty/long battery life. I have 18 volt or corded tools for the heavier jobs. This drill is nice for regular work especially if you need to carry it on a belt and don't want to lug a heavier one. But it still has two speeds like larger cordless drills and variable speed. After you buy a couple of M12 kits you'll likely have 4 batteries and two chargers. So the tool only option is a good deal.

This drill has proven itself time and again in cases where I needed a small form factor with decent performance, or didn't need the bulk and heft of my M18 Milwaukee drills. For a smaller tool, this one does the job and more. It should be noted that this tool was never meant to take the place of a full-sized drill/driver. You wouldn't use a finish hammer to install framing, so why would you expect the same sort of performance from a drill?
Best performance is attained with Milwaukee's new m12 batteries that have more cells. Great runtime, lots of torque using those batteries. It shines on the smaller jobs where you need a few holes or screws driven. If you're looking at a #10 screw and no pilot hole, then of course, you should use a bigger drill. I find the duo of this drill and the M12 1/4" impact driver to be a great team. Use the drill to put in pilot holes and the impactor to drive the screws. With that combination,, #10 screws and up are no problem. |
