Not perfect, but very good, and interesting,

This review is from: Bare Winter (Hardcover)
Although the book maybe somewhat overpriced, after having the time to catch a glimpse of it, I am not disappointed of my purchase. Ms. Pilkington has put together a quite interesting collection. But let's start with the dry cleaning. This book is not perfect. If you see the cover, you know the style: A black and white shot of one or several models, nude, on some spot in the Tasmanian forest. The truth is that there is not much variance in this style at all. Not much variety on that sense. Also, she generally pictures the ladies from their backs, with very few frontal shots, and fewer pictures showing their faces, and, when the face of the model is shown, it has an absolute lack of expression. That, I think, are its weaknesses.
On the other hand, even if the style is not diverse at all, truth is, it is a very likable style, at least for me. Also, I appreciate the fact that although about half of her models could be consider the "typical" model (twenty something years old, size zero or two, very fit), the other half, on the other hand, are just as attractive, but more diverse on sizes and and age, including at least one lady who probably read the news of the end of the second world war from the newspapers and not the history books. Besides, the spots of forest Ms. Pilkington chose are simply gorgeous. |
