Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I have lived in Central Ohio for the past eighteen years. I was born in Brooklyn, New York and have extensive family ties to the New York Garment District, which has enabled me to learn from behind the scenes. In the book, I share insider information and trade secrets. I am also the founder of National Bargain Hunting Week which had its inaugural celebration on August 5-11, 1996. The event takes place the first Monday through the following Sunday in August every year. Listed in the book, Chase's Annual Events, National Bargain Hunting Week is a time when businesses and shoppers can celebrate the thrill of the hunt for those bargains and the triumph of the "find" through their own celebrations, sales and special ways of saying "I am proud to be a bargain hunter" or "this deal's for you".

In this section, you'll find special sales which don't have a year round walk-in location as well as special events lasting for one or several days. Other special events can be found in the entertainment chapter. Follow the newspapers or call the sponsoring organization for the exact dates of these sales and events. The listings in this chapter offer quality, low cost entertainment options and/or the opportunity to purchase artwork and other items at excellent prices. Refer to the description of the Ohio Arts Council in the arts and crafts chapter for pertinent information about arts festivals. Don't overlook attending some of the smaller shows and even church bazaars. Sometimes the prices will be lower than in the larger shows. Often, an artist who is just creating art as a hobby may not be prepared for the rigid entry requirements of some of the bigger arts festivals. However, it does not necessarily mean that their work is inferior. Also, artists have more overhead at larger, more prominent arts fairs and so their prices may be higher as a result, but not always. Remember that holidays are a popular time for stores to run large sales-President's Day, Memorial Day and the like.
