4.0 out of 5 stars
Expert Bargello, March 31, 2009
This is a good Bargello Needlepoint book. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 star is the layout. All the color pictures are on a few glossy pages in the center of the book. They refer to graph numbers & page numbers. You have to hunt up the graph, refer back to the picture and so on, for each design.
I have stitched using a number of Dorothy Kaestner graphs from her books. I do find her graphs a bit difficult. They are all one color, the thread changes are shown by varying the symbol used. In a complex design this can be a bit much, but once you have decoded the graph, they do what they are supposed to.
If I could have my way ( as if) I would have these graphs with the lines in different colors, making them much easier to read. Yes, I would pay more for this book that way, gladly.
But all in all, if you are interested in Bargello Needlepoint I would sent you to Dorothy Kaestner or Margaret Boyles.
As a side note, I bought this book used, it is inscribed "to Dawn" by Dorothy Kaestner. I feel funny owning it, it *belongs* to Dawn. Who ever you are Dawn, I would not have sold a book Dorothy Kaestner signed and gave to me.
