The "Barging into the Presence of God" EP was Pale Saints' debut on 4AD, appearing in 1989 several months before their first LP The Comforts of Madness. The EP is in fact the band's three-song demo tape for 4AD, though its rough sonics were cleaned up by label head Ivo Watts-Russell and producer John Fryer before commercial release.

The first two tracks are straight-up pop, showing off more their debt to Primal Scream than the shoegazing features that would mark later efforts. "Sight of You" is the same version as on THE COMFORTS OF MADNESS. "She Rides the Waves" is an engaging track, but only two minutes long.

The last track, "Mother Might" is an ambient tune. Ian Masters keeps his voice restrained, percussion is only soft cymbals instead of overt drumming. This is not very representative of Pale Saints, although later EPs were filled out by such experimentation.

Two out of three tracks are fun, but not the band's best efforts, and you're only getting a few minutes of music. I'd recommend this one to Pale Saints completists who want to see where it all started.
