Being new to the area and having a Great Dane, this is a useful book, which not only has helped in finding places to take my dog to socialize, it has been helpful in learning my way around.

I ordered the wrong book, so I returned it. The return process was very easy.
I had a similar book for the Salt Lake area and liked it, though.

This book is perfect for casual or intense walkers/hikers who enjoy the outdoors with their dogs. I have had this book for several years now and regularly refer to it when our regular walks get stale and I need to change things up a bit. The descriptions are all very useful, describing park features, the length of available trails, any specific park rules, the "paw-friendliness" of the pavement, parking availability, restrooms, etc. If you haven't been to a particular park or trail before and you go armed with the info in this book beforehand, you can have a quality outing, find parking, navigate your trail, and not feel clueless or unsafe. I am especially fond of the descriptions that detail where dogs can swim. This is priceless info from a local! The descriptions also include practical information including park websites and directions from the Beltway. I have explored numerous trails in the Baltimore area after reading about them in this book; it is a great resource for finding parks and recreation in the area.
