Bark Smart - Sonic Barking Deterrent

You'll see this complaint in other reviews. The microphone range is half of the speaker range. So while the barksmart causes the annoying dog next door to stop barking when I set it off manually, it does NOT activate automatically when the dog barks since he's more than 20 feet from it. My compromise is, I mounted it on the railing outside my sliding glass door, and when the dog barking gets to me I go rap on the door. This sets off the barksmart and shuts the dog up. This may be a better system anyway, dogs will bark and I just want to curb his nuisance barking. (The people leave him outside for hours while they're at work and he barks when bored.) In only a week or two, I've noticed a drastic reduction in the amount of barking. He'll get on a roll, but each time I set off the bark smart it takes longer for him to start up again, or he'll go to the other side of the house where I can barely hear it. Not my problem then. :-) If he barks when I'm not home, that's also not my problem. Considering this unit was about half the cost of others on the market, I'm happy with it.

This barking deterrent DOES work very well for us. We have it aimed at the large neighbor dog that explodes into a loud barking frenzy everytime a leaf or anything else blows by. What's neat is that you can see when this device is emitting the ultrasonic frequency by a little green light that comes on.

However, even though we have this device adjusted to the most super-sensitive setting, it still fails to come on sometimes when the dog is barking right in front of it, only 6 feet away. So, if I happen to be outside, I will walk over to this Bark Smart (the sound of my footsteps approaching makes the dog go even more nuts) and tap my fingernail right on the microphone. That always activates the device, but makes me suspicious that it is designed poorly.

I've been using it for my chihuahua and jack russel and I'd say its cut their barking down to about 80% of what it was before. They only really bark now if they feel its worth the sharp noise they hear. And they bark as far away from the Barksmart as they can.

I guess that's better than before! Maybe I need 2 so I can put one at the other end of my yard.

I can't believe Barksmart works, but it does. My neighbor's dogs were driving my wife crazy but Barksmart has reduced their barking significantly. I think I will buy another unit for the othet side of my yard.

I've installed this device six feet above the ground. The annoying dog is about 15-20 feet away. That dog has stopped barking and I can have dinner in peace again, read my books, and get some sleep at night. Within the first four hours of turning the device on, the dog gave a few short barks and stopped. Nothing could stop this dog before! It hasn't barked since. I know it's alive but it doesn't sound like it at all around here!

My neighbor's dog barks non-stop at nothing anytime she lets it out. I bought this product a couple of month's ago, and am no longer awakened every morning by continuous barking. Today the dog began barking again, so I went to check out why and my husband had unpluged the bar smart when he cut the grass yesterday. So, the dog has not trained itself to stop boredome barking, but as long as we have the bark smart plugged in, she only barks if someone approaches the house.

I bought this product because I needed to stop my dog from his constant barking when he is outside. It was totally worthless. He was curious the first time I turned it on and after that it made him bark more. It also had a bad effect on the birds that frequent my yard. I haven't used it past the first week. I would suggest trying a different method to stop dog barking.

This product worked the first two times it went off, then the dog just got use to it. The dog now barks when it goes off! The dog doesnt care, it runs straight up to the product and barks like mad, huge waste of time and money but Smart Home refunded my money.

I bought two of these. One works just fine but the other failed. To my surprise the unit has no warranty. If the manufacturer has no faith in their product, why should I? The seller refunded my money but that was because it failed within the 30 day return period.

Complete Garbage of a product; I really can't stress that enough. It was as if we had never plugged it in at all; our two (barking for no reason) dogs still bark for no reason.

Do not buy this product, just move on down the line.
