This review is from: I Saw Ben Barka Get Killed ( J'ai vu tuer Ben Barka ) [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - United Kingdom ] (DVD)
this film is centered on a small-time french criminal who narrates the events (after his death)....we only see ben barka very briefly, and so, you must already know about him and his disappearance, to have any emotional involvement.....the film is not about making us care....the acting is all excellent but the dynamics of involving the audience have been neglected.....simon abkarian plays ben barka, and i was further distanced from the events on the screen because in "l'affaire ben barka" directed by jean-pierre sinapi, which i recently saw on t.v., he plays the moroccan suposedly in charge of ben barka's torture and murder.....the moroccan and c.i.a. involvement is hardly presented in this film, whereas in sinapi's work it is central.
