Book Description

August 1, 2005
"There is no better companion, teacher, or medicine for a child than the family pet." --Anonymous

Kids and pets are as timeless a combination as peanut butter and jelly. Pets provide security for kids--a warm buddy to snuggle with on cold winter nights, a sympathetic ear to listen to their woes and secrets (and not tell anybody), a clown of sorts who makes them laugh even when things seem gloomy. And pets find companionship in children, too. Kids give them all the attention they crave and even a few tasty morsels under the dinner table when Mom isn't looking!

Mark J. Asher's collection Barking Up the Family Tree celebrates that precious, everlasting bond with charming, heartwarming photographs of children and their animals--from dogs and cats to horses and hamsters. Each "awwww"-inspiring photo accompanies a brief "interview" with a child and his or her pet and reveals:

* common interests

* what the child learned from the pet

* what the pet learned from the child

* what animal the child would be

* what type of person the animal would be

More About the Author

Mark J. Asher is the author of three pet photography books, including the best-seller Old Friends, which features portraits of senior dogs. The Humane Society of the United States described Old Friends this way: "These animals jump from the pages, warm the heart, and inspire the soul."

Humphrey Was Here began a new direction in Mark's career. The deeply personal memoir details the loss of his beloved German Shepherd/Chow mix from stomach bloat. Best Friends Magazine highly recommended the work by saying, "The honesty and wisdom that grace this book will serve as a balm for others coping with their own pain."

Always interested in new creative outlets, Mark's most recent release is his first dog photography eBook entitled, Greatest Clicks. The work features 40 of his favorite images along with a brief recollection of each.

Annually, this dog lover unleashes his humorous side to produce a planner for creative procrastinators appropriately titled, Do It Later!

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Children & Their Pets, September 19, 2005
This review is from: Barking Up the Family Tree: Kids and Their Animal Kinships (Hardcover)
First of all I must say my opinion is a bit biased since my granddaughter Allison, and her pet, Andy grace the cover of this book. Also, my other granddaughter, her sister, Katie along with her cat, Missy are on page 41. I loved reading what the children had to say about their pets. It is so refreshing to see a book both children and adults would enjoy. Rita, Rehoboth Beach, DE
