Book Description

May 1, 1998
Finding the right boarding stable is a challenge faced by most riders at some stage in their careers. For novice horse owners, or longtime horse people new to the world of boarding stables, knowing what to look for is not as simple as it seems. A Barn Fit for King guides readers through the process in 80 information packed pages. Written in an easy-to-read style, it helps horse owners first decide what kind of boarding arrangement would be best for them and their horses, and then assess stables to find the most suitable facility. It helps the reader check out the barn, riding facilities, and horse-care routines. It also guides the reader to think about other less obvious aspects of a boarding situation which nonetheless can seriously affect the quality of the boarding experience.

Top Effort at Guide to Keeping Horses
By Sylvia Schneider

"Buying a horse is a big move. You're taking on the responsibility for a living creature who will depend on you for everything from food to exercise to quality of life. Your first decision, and one you hopefully make before buying him, is where he is to live."

Thankfully, Elizabeth Gredley, past Education Coordinator for the Alberta Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) appears to be well-qualified to give some really good advice. She draws upon experiences at more than twenty different stables in two provinces where she boarded her own horses, taught students and helped with Pony Club camps. Her book deals with choosing the best available facility to meet the needs of both human and equine in a boarding arrangement. It gives not only food for thought but ...thoughts about feed! -- Alberta Equine On-line

From the Publisher

There are many books on stable management, but to my knowledge, this is the only one that directly addresses how to choose a stable from such a practical point of view.
