5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, May 27, 2000
This review is from: Barnes' Notes on the New Testament (Hardcover)
Albert Barnes Notes on the New Testament is a must for any library. He exposits the Scripture better than any modern theologian. If you want to write better sermons or if you just want to grow in the Lord this is worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conservative Reformed Scholarship, May 29, 2004
This review is from: Barnes' Notes on the New Testament (Hardcover)
Albert Barnes' Notes on the New Testament should be on every preacher's library shelf. This is a treasure trove of good Biblical scholarship and sermon material on the New Testament. While not as stimulating or controversial (creative?) as many of the modern critical commentaries, Barnes' commentaries gives us that refreshingly reverent and Biblical presentation of truths so lacking in today's books and pulpits. This present volume collects the original 11 volume set in one handy and affordable book (with really tiny print!). If, like me, you are a little tired of all those critical scholars who deconstruct everything you thought you once believed in, then you'll find this volume a breath of fresh air - and a good reminder of how our grandfathers used to handle the Word of God in such a reverent, humble and believing manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Commentary, July 21, 2011

This review is from: Barnes' Notes on the New Testament (Hardcover)
I really like this commentary as Mr. Barnes is am amazing scholar. Many times he keeps his position neutral as he shows you all the different points as to what a word means or the history of a place in time. If you would like a good study guide, then this is a must have commentary by a very knowledgeable man. Stay away from modern commentaries as they are corrupted and stick to the men that spent their lives actually studying the word of God and the Hebrew and Greek languages, not like the men of today who pick up a concordance and claim they know what something means by looking only at the single case, and tense of a word without actually examining the mood, tense, case and gender of a word as Mr. Barnes and most of the great scholars of past have done.

This commentary is worth its weight in gold.

If you are looking for an excellent verse-by-verse commentary on the New Testament, this is a great book. The background information is very helpful. There is a lot of cross-referencing throughout the commentary, which is great. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars God is not partial, July 8, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Barnes' Notes on the New Testament (Hardcover)
God is not partial in revealing his Word to people after the apostles time. Textus receptus in which KJV based on is very accurate. God has preserved his Word for centuries tru churches. The new discoveries of MSS in modern time which were rejected by early church fathers are fake. The older the MSS, the less reliable they are. God would never had hidden his Word for more than 1800 years before they were revealed by modern day schloras. The old time commentators were candid, spiritual minded christians and devotional in writing style. Nothing can be added to God Word from outside. The old commentary sets such as of Matthew Henry's, Matthew Poole's, John Gill"s and Barne's notes are all reliable and very safe to read. I love these commentary sets so much
