Product Description

The compact Recruit Compound is the perfect size for small-framed hunters, making it easy to handle while still having enough speed for the hunt. At 300 FPS, 130 lbs. draw weight and 80 foot pounds of energy, this bow can take down any game the hunter would like to pursue. Adjustable butt stock gives the shooter the option to keep the bow as they grow and easily make any adjustments needed.

Operating Tips:

  • Always inspect the crossbow and arrows before firing.  Bent or damaged arrows/nocks are not safe to fire and should be discarded or repaired.
  • Never dry-fire the crossbow (shoot without an arrow).  Dry firing will void the warranty and can result in damage to the string, cables, and limbs, possibly causing personal injury.
  • Always use suitable crossbow arrows, such as Barnett 20" carbon arrows with half moon nocks.  Arrows of improper stiffness or mass weight may damage the string, cables, and limbs, voiding the warranty and possibly causing personal injury.
  • Prior to cocking your crossbow, be sure to apply lubewax to your string, cables, and flight track.

Hello, we purchased this nice bow as a family hunting tool and have been very pleased. We were looking for a xbow for my 8 year old son to use (mom & dad too) for this 2013 deer season and this fit the bill! It's fast, lite, and has a lot of adjustment for the scope. I like everything about this thing but what I like the most is how flat it shots. From 10 yards to 45 yards it has a 1" drop with 100 grain tips and the easton bolts it came with. The scope is good. It has an illuminated three dot 5 levels of green and red no magnification tho. It says it shoots 300 fps and I would have say it's pretty close. We were going to buy the cheaper rc-150 and I'm that we didn't. That model is a piece of junk. This recruit is leaps and bounds from the 200$ rc-150 and we got this at dunhams for 270$ with the 20% off coupon. The other thing that's great is how compact it is, 16" from axle to axle and about 12" ish drawn back. My 8year old can hit the 1" bullseye at 20 yards with this and would split arrows if shooting at the same spot. The safety works good and the trigger pulls smooth. You have to put it together but it only took me about ten minutes and I was sighting it in. If your looking for the best crossbow for the money look no further, Bill from Michigan

Got this from the Amazon Warehouse for my son who is turning 13 and I was "less than pleased" when it arrived in pieces. Of pieces! It was described as "used in Very Good condition". It was missing the string, bolts, and other items. I opened the box to find it's contents crammed inside as one might stuff a garbage bin.

But thankfully there's more to the story....I did an online chat session with an Amazon Rep and He issued a call tag to pick up the mess of a "crossbow" that the warehouse sent, and had a NEW replacement sent out 1 day shipping! Customer service REALLY stepped it up on this one. As some of you know, Amazon Warehouse Deals can REALLY drop the ball sometimes. But I, and my son, are sure pleased with the outcome on this occasion. Thanks Amazon Customer Service!

Ok, so here's the scoop.....Up front, the Barnett Recruit is, without a doubt, one of the best crossbow bargains of all time. And I am being somewhat conservative here. Of course time will tell how she holds up over the long haul, but as one familiar with crossbows/manufacturers and their history, I can tell you that this one performs very well for the money. At this moment, people are buying el cheapo bargain crossbows for only fifty bucks or so less than this well engineered wonder! What you get for 250 bucks is quite probably, the best high tech, miniaturized, light weight bolt thrower on the planet. We LOVE the balance, the light weight, (6.5lbs) the VERY short width (12" drawn/18" undrawn!) and at only 130lb draw weight It shoots over 300fps and out performs my 150lb draw, 8.5lb medieval giant war club of a crossbow, handily. It's even got upper and lower picatinny rails. Great for a foregrip and other fun add ons.

I thought I was making the right purchase with this crossbow. I had been using my friend's Recruit all last week. I Liked it do to its compact size and I even managed to kill a 100lb buck with it, bolt went fully through. So I bought one and today I got mine in from Amazon. I then fully assembled it, per instructions, and proceeded to sight it in. I then attached the cocking rope and locked the string back, yes it locked back and the safety automatically engaged. I then released rope slowly and verified again that the string locked back, which it did. I then removed the rope from the string and a few seconds later BANG!!!! Luckily the bow was still pointing towards the ground and no one was hurt. Not knowing what happened I inspected the bow, thinking it dry fired. I then saw that the string was still locked back and the safety was engaged. I then saw the problem. The left arm limb pocket broke, apparently due to weak metal and polymer retainer. Mad and dissapointed I then called Barnett customer service, 30 minute wait. I explained that incident and they gave me three choices. 1) I pay the shipping cost and mail the bow to them. 2) I take it to a local repair shop and they would supply part but I pay the labor. 3) I contact Amazon. Not happy with my choices I asked the Barnett lady if they could just send me the front riser but she said that was not an option. So the only option that would not cost me more money was to contact Amazon, which I did and Amazon issued me a return label.
Update: Not being satisfied with the way my first call was handled I called Barnett again, 45 minute hold. This time I was connected to a much more helpful representative, Jenni. She offered me a return label and three days later I got a email with the return label so the Crossbow could be repaired or replaced.

I was very skeptical because of the price point of this crossbow. I figured it would be a little too tame and not able to really kill an animal ethically. I was 100% wrong. It was easy to sight in, the scope was good, and the velocity of this crossbow is tremendous. To give you an idea, my son and I both pull over 65 lbs with our compound bows, which is more than enough to ethically harvest an animal. When we shoot at our target block, we generally bury our arros 4-5 inches deep.

When we shot this crossbow at the block, the only thing preventing the arrow from going all the way through was the fletching. We couple this with Grim Reaper broadheads, and it is beyond deadly.

My 11 yo, my wife (5'4"), my 9 yo girl, and my 7 yo girl can all handle this crossbow and harvest animals with it. I'm now coming to this page to buy my second one for my wife. And I'll be buying a 3rd and a 4th. More than worth the money. Heck, I take it and use it and I have no problems with the size. I'm 6'3" and 325lbs. It's a killing machine for adults or children, so don't use it as a toy. It's a weapon, and a good one.
