4.0 out of 5 stars Great Bow, cheap arrows
Purchased this for my 12 year old daughter. She became interested in Archery after having gone to a weekend camping trip with her school. Of all available activities she discovered Archery was her favorite. So, for Christmas this is what Santa brought for her.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok
The bow is great and my 8 year old son loves it. But the arrows are junk and were trashed the first day he had it. Go to Gander Mtn or somewhere similar to get some good arrows. Also, the sight is poorly designed and broke after a few days due to being tightened too much. The manufacturer wanted to charge 7 dollars to replace and send a new one which I thought was...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Bow, cheap arrows, January 12, 2011

Purchased this for my 12 year old daughter. She became interested in Archery after having gone to a weekend camping trip with her school. Of all available activities she discovered Archery was her favorite. So, for Christmas this is what Santa brought for her.

Overall this is a nice archery set. It comes with everything you need to get started. The build quality of the bow seems to be very good. I don't have any experience with this sort of thing but you can tell cheap from quality and the Barnett set is nice. Needless to say my daughter loved it and couldn't wait to get out and show off her new skills.

She knew exactly what to do and actually hit the target (2 included with the set) at what I considered long distance for a beginner. Very good. The only downside I see to this has to do with the 2 plastic arrows that come with the set. The metal tips are pressed on and seem to be cheaply made. She kept popping the metal tips off the arrows and finally completely lost one of them.

If you get this definitely consider getting the additional arrow set. You'll need to replace arrows on a regular basis from what I've seen so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Package, August 29, 2010

Got this for my 9 year old daughter. It is a little tough for her but i'm sure she will grow into it. The wrist guard is flimsy but the bow and arrows are good quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars For kids who are strong, November 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My son was so excited to receive this as a birthday gift, but for my 9 year old boy, it was much too stiff for him to pull back the arrow on the bow. He soon realized how much effort he needed to pull back the bow, but bc he isn't quite strong enough, his aim is completely compromised. The bow and arrow is very well made, unlike another set I also purchased which was more a toy than an actual archery set. The bow is sturdy and the arrows look ominous if not used carefully and outdoors. Because the set is well constructed, I will hold onto it until my son is strong enough to use it. In the mean time, he will play around with a set that is more like a toy and practice his technique and aim. This set would be a great introductory set for a stronger boy. For reference, my son is on the small side, weighing 57 pounds and standing 52 inches tall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loads of Fun, July 1, 2011

The bow is very high quality and I can tell it will last quite a while. The arrows themselves are very nice, but the fletchings are not durable. They will hit parts of the bow while flying out and over time will begin to tear. I suppose you can always insert your own feather fletchings though.

I've used this bow with about 20 other kids at a camp and they all loved it. In fact, they couldn't put it down! I recently bought one for my friends who are ages 15-22 yrs old and they all enjoyed it. You can always stand closer if you have trouble hitting or you can stand farther for more of a challenge.

For those who are getting hit by the string when it recoils after shooting, you can always bend your arm at the elbow a little so that it doesn't touch. This way I have no problems at all with the recoil. You can also make your own arm guard by using a long sock and cutting the end where the toes go for a thumb hole and 4 finger hole--it's an excellent substitute!

This bow/arrow kit doesn't come with a target, but I made my own using the very same box the item came in and it has been fantastic. The bow/arrow will come in a large and long box. What I did was stuff the box full of newspaper while taping a few old magazines inside to the back for some added weight and armor. I then taped the whole thing shut and use markers to make targets in the front. I've gotta say, it saved me quite a lot of money rather than having to buy a styrofoam target that will rip, fly around, etc. Everyone loved the idea and it has been holding up quite well. I can easily pull the arrows out without damaging them as well. Give it a try and have fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for my 7 year old, but poor arrow rest, November 25, 2011

I got this for my 7 year old son. He really loves it. He can usually hit a cardboard box at 15 feet, when he remembers to shut his left eye. I got extra arrows at walmart for $2 each. The string was a bit rough on his fingers so we got a leather finger protector. He also snapped himself in the forearm a few times, but now he's learned how to hold the bow properly. The sight pin works pretty well, despite not having a rear peep. The instructions on the carton are very minimal. I could not figure out any way to adjust the draw length or the draw strength. The strength is about 15 lbs max, with a nice left-off. The length is a bit too long for my 7 year old, so he is holding the string at his ear instead of his cheek, but it works ok. The arrow rest is very poorly designed. It is difficult for a beginner to keep the arrow from falling off the bow. I was able to fix it by taping a bit of cardboard to the side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!!!, August 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my son to use on our summer vacation. It was AWESOME. At first it was a bit difficult for him to draw it back. Eventually he got the hang of it. This is not a toy it is really well built and the arrows go pretty far. Accueracy is good at shorter distances. The only thing I would recomend is buying about 5 more practice arrows. Its fun and educational I set up targets for him and his friends and they had a blast. Make sure they use it under adult supervision because again it is not a toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, but order more arrows., September 4, 2011

12 year old son loves it! I suggest buying more arrows and targets. Best to build your own target out of left over boxes as the real ones are over $100.
