This is the first time I've written a review for a product. THIS BOW IS AWSOME. I have a Barnett Thunderbolt I bought in the late 80's, still shoots great, but I wanted a new bow for my son. This thing is so superior to my thunderbolt it's not funny. After sighting it in I was hitting the bull's-eye at 55 yards - THAT'S INSANE!
Plenty of power, nice balance, comfortable to shoot, tack driving accuracy - Great job Barnett!
Make sure you read the manual before shooting. I also use a ruler to find the center of the bow string, then I mark it with permanent marker, from here I mark the string 3/4 inch on each side of center. This way you can make sure string is centered for every shot, very important for accuracy! and makes sure you don't break the bow limbs from uneven cocking.
Have fun, hunt safe - Kevin - farmer/hunter

This crossbow is impressive from the minute you take it out of the box, it has a high-quality look and feel. It took 15-20 minutes to assemble, all the parts fit precisely into each other. My first shot out of the box, I hit a 2" circle at 20 yards. Nice!

I first dialed-in the 3-dot sight so that the bottom dot was dead-on at 60 yards, using the bolts that came with it (which, with 145 grain field points, weigh about 465 grains.) That made the middle dot dead on at just under 40 yards, and the top dot dead on at 25 yards and closer. I then decided to try it with 425 grain bolts, which reduced fall enough that the middle dot is dead-on at 25-50 yards, and the bottom dot is dead-on at almost 65 yards! (Note that 425 grains is the minimum bolt weight suggested by Barnett for this crossbow.)

Of course with a lighter bolt you lose a bit of energy but this thing has energy to burn! Even at 60 yards the points poke out the backside of my 16" thick memory foam "Block" target! I'll gladly trade an insignificant amount of energy for increased accuracy and range!

Long story short, I hit the bulls eye on my target at 50 yards 19 out of 20 times -- the deer haven't got a prayer! I'm highly pleased with this purchase, this crossbow is a huge step up from my old Barnett Panzar V, I'd highly recommend it!

This crossbow does have alot of weight to it but does have nice balence. It is 7 lb. because almost all part are metal and good quality.I would rather have quality, power, accurate and durability over light weight, for hunting or survival situation.Out of the box came with in 2" of the bulls eye at 15 yards and with a little adjusting its hit the bulls eye every time at 20 yards.345 feet per second is the most you will need.I do sugest really good qaulity targets for the qaud 400, it can go right thew most targets.I put a target arrow into an oak tree at 20 yards 4 1/2" into the tree, could not pull arrow out,you could take down a bear if needed with this bow.The 3D camo.paint is outstanding quality.Red/gren dot scope is very nice, very fun to use and easy, good upto 50 yrds.battery is low quality short lived I sugest getting a 5 or 6 pack of 3V coin type battery or get the 40x scope package. But the red/green 3 dot scope is a must try.could be helpful if you have bad eyes.Hard to cock I sugest a hand crank if you have a bad back or shoulder other wise gloves will work fine, but hand crank is nice to have if you want to shoot more than 3 shots per outing, more than 3 pulls you will be sore, hands and shoulders.Great crossbow for a quick humane hunting. The best choice on amozon.

Overall the crossbow is a pretty good little crossbow. It came packed really poorly for some reason (bolts and nuts were just loose in the package. Assembly was a bit tricky though.. there is a plastic piece that goes in the slot with the support strings, and according to the instructions one groove is deeper than the other, and they add emphasis constantly that the top string goes int he deep groove. I had to pull out calipers to try and figure out which was deeper, and the answer at the end was neither... they were the same size. It shoots and groups very well for me. At 25 yards I've got a 1" group which is respectable. I also bought the crank cocking kit and that leaves a lot to be desired.. the boot to hold it barely sits ont he crossbow, and 2 of the cheap screws broke during tightening. On the plus side one call to Barnett and replacement screws and parts were sent without question. To those who had the limbs break, and the awful groups. its probably that plastic retainer I mentioned above.. since its not actually in the instructions, and comes as a separate set of instructions I am sure a lot of people miss it, and that would cause a lot of issues including limb breakage, and accuracy problems. Overall I am not disappointed..

Pros : Great Crossbow for the Money, Accurate if Assembled Correctly
Cons: Loose bolts during shipments, rope cocking system needs better screws

Love this crossbow. Easy to put together. Sighted it in like instructions said at 10 yds for top dot. Top dot was still dead on out to 30 yds and only a few inches low at 40 yds. Shoots hard.

I just read 2 other reviews--the "best" and the "worst". I must say I'm leaning towards the "best" review. I read them both, to be fair, because I read the "worst" review first, and I feel compelled to say that I believe the reviewer who gave the worst review must have gotten a crossbow from a bad batch or something. I would also like to say I am not a paid employee of Barnett, their pro staff, affiliates, or anything of the sort--just a deer hunter who has been shooting bows (cut my teeth on Martin 26 years ago and PSE for the last 15) for a long time. This is the 3rd crossbow I have owned. My first was a Bear/Jennings (remember that one from 20+ years ago?), second was a Barnett Demon, and now I am the proud owner of a Quad 400. Also to be fair, if I have any malfunctions or bad experiences, I will report back here. This crossbow would get 5 stars except for scope rail. I put (5), yes (5) different scopes on this thing trying to get it sighted in. I started with a 4x32 AIM scope I bought from Amazon, and it ran out of adjustment. So, I went back to the Barnett 3-dot red/green dot that came with the kit. Another thing that kindof torqued me was I ordered (I thot) the kit with the 4x32, and the kit with the red/green triple dot was delivered to me, AND the box was marked 4x32 scope. Not wanting to send it back because there was only 1 left in stock when I ordered this one, I just opted to buy the extra scope for around $40, thinking I would have a red dot or a 4x32 I could use, whichever suited me. Well, both scopes ran out of adjustment. The problem, in my experience, lies in the scope mounting/sight rail. It requires rings or scope mounts that have a very thin mount on one side to fit into the groove below the rail. I finally got what I wanted from a Tasco Pro Point.Read more ›
