What a great crossbow! I have so much positive things to say about this crossbow but I will try to make this short. I researched a TON before making this purchase and I couldn't be happier. I live in Illinois so crossbow hunting is illegal unless you are disabled or over 62 years of age so I have NOT used this for hunting. My primary reasons for purchase were for fun and to add to my arsenal for when/if SHTF.

The good
The construction of this crossbow is second to none. It was simple to put together and took about 20 minutes. Just read the instructions. The removable quiver is great and so simple to attach or take down. The stock has two plastic covers on each side that can be removed to add a hand crank (sold separately). The release of the string when shot is quick and leaves little vibrations. Solid, solid, solid. The look, feel and weight of the crossbow is amazing. You can definitely tell that this was made in the USA. I don't know how else I can say it, but it just feels solid and I am very confident this will last years to come with very little maintenance.

The bad
the only negative is the 3 dot scope it comes with. Yes, it does work but fixed iron sights would do EXACTLY the same thing. Having this scope did nothing for me. I was able to sight the scope and it was accurate at 30 yards but I was only shooting 2-2/5 inch groupings at 30 yards. I really wanted closer to 1 inch groupings.

After one day of receiving the crossbow, I purchased the Barnett 3x 32mm illuminated scope. WOW, this scope was awesome and helped me get to my 1-1.5 inch groupings at 30 yards. Because I am not going to hunt with this crossbow, 30 yards is perfect for me.

Make sure to wax the strings every 5-10 shots.

Fast, made in the USA, good quality. I am very happy with my purchase. I would give this 3 stars for the poor scope and the fact that the instructions say to use 20 inch bolts/arrows, but it came with 22 inch bolts/arrows. But, the quality of the bow itself and the fact that it was made here in the USA earns it 4 stars. I spent $30 on the right arrows and $50 on a better scope and I am very happy with my purchase. The only other gripe I had was that it didn't come with a cocking device. I knew that and ordered one when I ordered the crossbow, but the scope was so bad that I felt I would have gotten more for my money with a cocking device that the scope it came with. So to recap:

Pros:
Made in the USA
High Quality (bow, string, mechanics) - it looks like it will last
Fair price for what you get

Cons:
Came with the wrong arrows
The scope will need replacing - it is mostly worthless
Didn't come with a cocking devise

I've only shot a few bolts with my C5, but am amazed at its accuracy and power. This is my first crossbow, and was scared of it at first. I am getting more comfortable with it, practice gives one confidence.

I am awaiting the arrival of some more bolts I bought to go with the 3 that came with it. I threw away one of the original bolts because the forward momentum of the string was driving the nock forward into the rear of the bolt. I think, before long, that bolt would have damaged the string, so keep an eye on the nock-end of your bolts.

I replaced the scope that came with it with a Bushnell illuminated scope - vast improvement.

I keep waxing my string (not the serving), especially where they cross on the sides of the stock. I use a que-tip to lub the slot in the stock where the two cables move forward and rearward on the sled as the bow is cocked. I also keep lub on the flat surface on top that contacts the string and bolt.

I have been reading up on how to change the string, thinking about the future and am not looking forward to it. I'll probably take in to the local archery shop and let them do it.

Bottom line - I'm really enjoying my Barnett Wildcat C5. I've only shot it at my target 10 and 20 yards distant, but am looking forward to putting the target farther away.

I just received this item, my first crossbow of any kind, as a Christmas gift (2012) from my husband. He researched the item thoroughly online and with other experienced bow owners and ultimately purchased it through Amazon.com based on the large numbers of positive reviews touting the outstanding craftsmanship, value of the item, respect of the brand, and that it was offered in black rather than the more common camo color. This is also his first crossbow.
We only intend to use the item for target shooting/sport/recreation at our farm on the range we've constructed as neither of us hunt-however, I've noted that other owners have provided positive reviews based on using this weapon for hunting.
The item arrived as stated and was well packed and was not missing any components. Multiple inspection stickers were found within the packaging and on the product, which is MADE IN THE USA (just down the road from where I reside!). After opening the box and reviewing the contents as instructed in the manual, we assembled it following the manual directions. Note RE assembly: The only instructional point I would comment on is that the slider is boxed separately and not included in the instruction booklet, so we had to partially disassemble and add that component. For a more experienced archer, this might not have been an issue as they may have noticed that sooner than we did. For the inexperienced, the manufacturer might take care to add a note in the manual. The red-dot sight, also boxed separately, was also easy to attach.
We fired the bow approximately a half-hour after opening the box (and watching several Youtube review videos as reference). We found the bow to be in perfect working order. Lots of reviews have commented on the poor quality of the sight.
