Parents coerced into purchasing this tape by their children (devoted fans of the ever-present Barney) will be relieved to know that nearly all the classic holiday songs are allowed to maintain their original lyrics and not rewritten, as is typical Barney. This made-for-video Christmas special follows the adventures of Barney, BJ, Baby Bop, and their kiddy friends on a journey to the North Pole. There in the frozen candyland they meet that bearded icon of happiness, Santa Claus. Barney's Night Before Christmas resembles a '70s variety show, featuring silly skits in which the characters frequently break into song.

Producers are smart enough to engage older kid actors, which are a draw to the younger intended audience. The tape offers lessons in Christmas traditions--the spirit of giving, working together, and winter fun. My 15 month old son LOVES this video. We bought it before Christmas and he's been watching it since. Someone likened it to a Barney-Coma, and I agree. It's like my son is in a trance when he watches this video, and the songs are so catchy my husband and I find ourselves singing them at work. The only problem is he cries for the remote saying "Barney" if it's not playing. We'll have to get Barney therapy!!! We are now looking for some other Barney tapes he's like as much as this one.

My twins (age 21 mo.) love Barney's - Night Before Christmas. It has been playing in our house every night since we brought it home. This is their 1st Christmas that they sort of understand and this video has been a wonderful way to introduce/show them all the wonderful things about Christmas. My daughter goes nuts when each of the characters show up, especially Barney! I have even found myself singing along to the old Christmas songs that I have forgot until now. Great addition to our video collection.

Barney is O.K. in my book, but with this video he really has me hooked! Great entertainment for my toddler son and for my husband and of course for me. The songs helped me remember my beautiful childhood Christmas memories. With this video I feel that I am able to introduce to my young yet very receptive and bright son the true meaning of Christmas, sharing with families and friends. I gave this video as a gift without watching it, after seeing how captivating and so very entertaining it is, it shall be a number one gift for the next Christmas season.
