Wild and wooly western pulp action!,
By T.P.M. (Somewhere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Baron of Coyote River (Stories from the Golden Age) (Paperback)
This is one of my favorites from L. Ron Hubbard. A great many of the golden age reprints from Galaxy Press are westerns and Hubbard was so skilled at creating likeable characters and fast action packed plots that I was turning the pages eagerly and savoring the adventure. If you haven't read one of the Galaxy Press golden Age reprints this will be a good place to start. It's wild and wooly fun!

Welcome to the Wild West!,

This review is from: The Baron of Coyote River (Stories from the Golden Age) (Paperback)
"Cattle rustlers" & "Gunslingers" -- terms that mark the old West. Done in the style of the classic Louis L'Amour. While the West was being 'settled', justice was as much in the hands of the ranch owners as the Sherrif's. Hubbard captures the mind-set of the these earlier settlers, who frankly we owe a lot. He paints the landscapes and puts you into the minds of the characters like few authors have been able to do. When you meet this mysterious Baron of the Coyote River -- you will not forget him.

A Johnny Depp type and a Richard Kiel type together in ONE Audiobook !!!,
By guestar57 "Chris aka Guestar57" (Porterville,Ca.USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Baron of Coyote River (Stories from the Golden Age) (Audio CD)
Starring the voices of: Martin Kove, Bruce Boxleitner and Jim Meskimen.
BARON is about a wronged gunslinger and his unlikely compadre who fight against illegal cow stealing,Corrupt cavalry and mistaken identity. This sounds like a real time reading of an old dime novel that was about Custer,Jesse James or some other gunslinger of the day. The backup tale on this audiobook is REIGN of the GILA MONSTER,Although shorter this tale held my interest perhaps more and its the one that had ALL THE STARS. I heard the image of RICHARD'Jaws'KIEL, as the character in story ...And Richard was no where near this audio tale,But,It could have been him...Except L.Ron wrote this in the'40s and Richard would have been a kid and nowhere near his famous size of today. Good script and voices and amusing premise to plot.
