You can buy this CD directly from the band's web site for 10 bucks. Why give someone else an extra 8 bucks?

Not Weak! But maybe for die-hards.,

This is not a weak performance. It's probably not the best but it's a great sample of the talented Modest Mouse live. This 10 song live set (which I wish was longer), is only officially available from their `Bootleg' site and is issued in a cardboard sleeve. Some of my favorites on 'Baron Von Bull**** Rides Again' are 'Broke', the seven and a half minute version of 'Doin' The Cockroach' and the mellow 'Bankrupt On Selling'. The recording quality isn't great but above tolerable unlike any downloaded set I can find on the internet. I would recommend this CD for die-hard fans or fans interested in their live show. Released: April 13, 2004.

Good, but not their best,

This live compilation is a good representation of what the band has become. They stick more to the books, and play the songs very similar to how they appear on the record. In their old performances on previous tours, they would draw songs out, and add more lyrics and different parts to the songs. On their newest tour, however, they take a more mainstream approach, and thats what this album shows. This is a great quality recording, but I get rather annoyed when bands release live compilations and make the album short, simply because there is so much room for more songs to put on the album. But it does capture the energy that Isaac Brock has on stage, far more than the studio work does.

Before getting this i never thought Bankrupt on Selling could become a more beautiful song, but once again Issac Brock & Co. proved me wrong. This is an eclectic bunch of songs that focuses more on their genious career than plugging their latest cd. In fact the only song off of "good news" is The Good Times are Killing Me and it is given a raw, and intimate feel that makes you think of the best moments of "Lonesome Crowded West". Its nice to see that a band ontop of their game still realizes that a good live show still means something and Baron Von Bull**** truely shows that MM stick to their roots.

I have just about all the Modest Mouse CDs, and it's nice to have a different arrangement of some of my favorite songs. They're live, as well, so it's even more attractive. Between songs, they even have some commentary and artist/audience dialogue (makes it even more entertaining to listen to!). I love this collection, and it just adds another great album to my collection.

This is a must-have for any Modest Mouse fan. Some of these live performances are better than the original recordings and some songs are longer with improv.

Neither weak, nor only for diehards,

I'll be honest. If you've recently discovered Modest Mouse through a Float On video on MTV, you may not like this cd. Like any live cd, you're probably not going to appreciate it as much if you haven't heard the studio versions of these songs.
The thing is, Modest Mouse has been making awesome music since well before "Good News". If you like the band, pick up "Lonesome Crowded West", then "The Moon and Antarctica", then "This is a Long Drive...". All of these CDs are as good or better than "Good News", if not quite as poppy. After you've done that, buy this cd, and love it. (My favorites are Bankrupt on Selling, 3rd Planet, and I Came as a Rat) :)

Great Band, Weak Performance,
This review is from: Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again (Audio CD)
Number 1: Modest Mouse is a great band with many great songs(i.e. float on, ocean breathes salty, paper thin walls, your life, and many more). Number 2: Where is the parental advisory limit on this, some of the song have swear words and some of the songs talk and use swear words(i.e. paper thin walls).
So overall, the songs are cool, but the performance is pretty weak. |
