A Wonderful Story Especially for the Young Adult.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Baronet's Song (Paperback)
George MacDonald is the master when it comes to communicating the beauty and power of Nature. He has a deep appreciation for the transcendant meaning and purpose which God infuses into Nature by His very character which is ever-present Love. And because man is made in God's image, he is able to experience in the deepest way possible the all-present Love of God. A God who is always seeking to sympathize with and redeem the men and women He created. This is the story of an orhan who cannot speak who flees the city and manages to find friendship and love in the midst of a simple country family. In the end his life leads him back to the city and to places he never could have imagined. If you are interested in finding out what life is all about and where true happiness lies this story is an exellent guide-book.

A young boy with no advantages, as this world counts them, in seeking goodness, went on to discover that doing right, as God counts right, is the best reward. A wonderful book.

We read this aloud to our family and ALL loved it. We think the author is the best ever. Most of his books are Scottish and C.S. Lewis and JRR Tolken both claimed him as their mentor! GET IT ! :)

George MacDonald is such an amazing author. Michael Phillips edits the lengthy novels making them more readable.
I simply want to say that every one of the novels I have read by this man has inspired me, whether the main character was a sailor, pastor, shepherd, or a lord of the manor. MacDonald via Phillips paints on a canvas full of rich characters who find their way in life and with the Lord.

I love MacDonald's stories with his noble characters and respect for God, but I know I'd never make it through 10 pages without Michael Phillip's translations to clear away the dialect of the Scotts people. I have repurchased and reread the first 4 books, and this time will keep them! I'll be back for the next one after Christmas. I appreciated having the 2 related stories in one volume; Baronet's Song and Shepherd's Castle. That way I don't forget the thread of first while I hunt for the second.

Unspeakable Love,
By Runner (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Baronet's Song (Paperback)
I tear up when I relate this book to how my Lord wins my love without "audible" words. Everyone (especially men?) could learn a bit from Gibby's reflection of Christ-like love in this romance. A must read. I envy the new reader to this series. It is one of the most loved in my collection. I often give mine away and never see them again! So here I am getting another one.
