5.0 out of 5 stars Barozzi or the Venetian Sorceress, June 11, 2006
This review is from: Barozzi: or the Venetian Sorceress (Gothic Classics) (Paperback)
I am with the publisher of this book, Valancourt Books. Since Amazon has never posted the book's description, here it is, from the book's back cover:

"The unfortunate Rosalina St. Almo is torn from her father's arms by vicious banditti, who slaughter her father before her eyes. Fortunately she is rescued from the villains by young Rosalva di Barozzi, who takes her to his father's palace in Venice. But more terror awaits her there when a hideous sorceress at a masked ball prophesies her doom!

Is the mysterious sorceress trying to help Rosalina escape her enemies' clutches, or is she scheming to sacrifice her in a demonic ritual? Can Rosalina evade the assassins sent to destroy her and solve the mystery of the sorceress in time?

This edition reprints the complete text of the 1815 edition and includes a new introduction for modern readers."

5.0 out of 5 stars "Disguise after disguise...", November 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Barozzi: or the Venetian Sorceress (Gothic Classics) (Paperback)
The edition I orginally had of this book was published by Ayer, and the print was missaligned on so many pages that I was confused many times during the progress of the story. Thankfully, Valancourt has printed this lovely edition of a Radcliffean and Lewis inspired book, with all the typical twists and turns of Gothic narrative. Some of the passages are truly haunting, especially the scenes in the chamber when the young Barozzi finds a "corse" weltering in blood, and the sorceress insisting that the Baron Barozzi give in to her master, Lucifer!
