Barrage Rocks,
By
This review is from: Barrage (Audio CD)
Recently, my friends and I were at Epcot (Disney World) and we were heard this wonderful music. We rushed down the street and ended up in front of an amazing concert. The violinists were playing difficult songs while dancing! As violinists, we were absolutely astounded by their talent and rushed to buy their cd. That cd has been in my cd player since October and I still love to listen to it. Their alternative style is somewhere between fiddle, classical, celtic and rock music. If you enjoy any of these styles, you will love Barrage!

Great Variety!,

What a great way to start out the year but with this great CD by the Canadian prodigies of Barrage. This is a very versatile CD with great sounds of every culture ranging from Bluegrass to soothing mountain music to Islamic to Chinese jazz fusion to Carribean to the emerald seas of Ireland. Barrage's contemporary style mixes with classical music to make an extraordinary sound that can only be accomplished by these young adults. Seven vionlinists, a guitar player, drummer, and 2 jack-of-all-instruments come together to make this CD which is sure to be adored by young and old alike. When I saw these performers I was mesmerized by their talent and ability to make every song exciting and unique. Every time you listen to the CD you hear something different. Definately a CD that will stand the test of time.

You don't have to watch their show to enjoy their music!,
This review is from: Barrage (Audio CD)
The Canadian group "Barrage" describe their violin/fiddle project as exploring musical styles tracing the roots of the violin in different cultures and bring forth the ethnic components in a contemporary theatrical way. Their goal to create something unique, something that you haven't heard before has been successfully achieved with their self-titled album. It's an interesting blend of energetic fiddle playing, foot stomping percussion, dynamic guitar work and vibrant vocals. While listening to this album you eventually think (at least subconsciously) of Celtic songs,Michael Flatley(Lord of the Dance),Stephane Grappelli and John McLaughlin. (Well I did!)Their music is a combination of traditional and modern sounds that will appeal to many people with very different tastes in music.(Although being a Rap/Hip-Hop fan myself, I enjoyed "Barrage" a lot) :)

A Wonderful Barrage on the Senses.,
By Bob Biz (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Barrage (Audio CD)
WOW! Barrage is a stunning aural fusion of musical styles that cover a wide spectrum, from Celtic and folk to big band swing and East Indian to Calypso and Jazz to Kleczmer, Classical and Pop. These eleven players (mostly fiddle players mixed with guitars, percussion, flutes and a xylophone) unleash dazzling energetic playing on songs such as "Chopsticken," "The Ukraine," and the barn-burning "Old Joe Clark" but they wisely alter the mood throughout on slower tracks like "Mountain Spring," the majestic swirling Middle Eastern "Mahatma" and the breathless vocal "Until We Meet Again". Barrage has about half vocal cuts and half instrumental excursions. If you like foot stomping, hand clapping, good time music with International tastes and textures, then Barrage your senses with this amazing CD. Just listening to it makes me imagine choreographed fiddlers happily dancing and swinging. I can't wait to see the show and I'll definitely buy the DVD when it comes out.

I caught Barrage's performance on PBS one evening. They are so amazing, I made my husband come and watch (he watches very little TV). We both sat, spellbound and totally taken by this energetic, ultra-talented group! Not only is the music incredible, but they have so much fun performing that it is a delight to watch them. We'd love to see them in concert and definitely will if we have the chance!

I just saw the touring company and was amazed with the show. I knew immediately after the show that I wanted to have this CD. This show reminded me of the wonder of Riverdance, except with violinists!!! An amazing amount of talent is on that stage, and if you get the opportunity, see Barrage. Their website is www.barrage.org, and lists tour dates for 2002. This CD will always bring back the foot-stomping, magical delight that I witnessed today...

The best ever!,

I found out about barrage about three years ago. MY friends had just come back from London and they had seen them perform. All of the things they had to say were good and recomended that I go and see them also. Being fifteen I really had no way of getting there let alone payng for it. So my glimpse of barrage playing live was on hold. About a year or so later I was watching PBS and there they were. My friends never told me how amazing they were to watch. Being an instumentalists I always like to watch a good performer, or in this case thirteen perfomers. Later that year my parents suprised me with tickets to go and see them in Detroit. I was so excited! The show was amazing! Everything was totally unbelievable! How they can dance and play violins/fiddles I will never know. I had also seen blast that year, but it was no contest. Barrage was in my eyes better. This past week I went to see Barrage again. They have a new show and it is just as amazing as the first. I recommend getting tickets if they ever come your way!

Incredible! A breath of fresh air from cookie cutter bands!,

Recently saw Barrage playing live in Tommorowland at Disneyland. In contrast to the typical generic rock fare usually offered there, this time I was drawn to the stage by some of the most hauntingly beautiful violin music I have ever heard. I ended up standing in rapt fascination as the band went through an astounding reportoire of songs with multiple ethnic influences. It's hard to imagine how the performers are able to dance with such energy and play at the same time - I swear the violin strings must have been smoking at various points during the performance. Didn't walk over to buy the CD, I RAN!! Check out the DVD of their concert too - this is one incredible group!!!

Barrage- World on Stage,
By
This review is from: Barrage (Audio CD)
Barrage performed at Disneyland at the Tomorrowland stage a few weeks ago and had myself(54), my daughter(26), and the packed area around the stage in sort of a trance. Very good variety and showmanship not to miss the great music. Very good entertainers and musicians with an Irish hint. I like many different kinds of music and I am not sure which catagory to put them in so I put them on top and listen to the CD all of the time, just like now. I could not wait to purchase the CD so I got it at Disneyland before we left. I look forward to their future compilations and so should everyone else. I have not found anyone that did not love this CD. Keep it up.
