too hard,
This review is from: Barrett's Hill (Paperback)
I usually don't reveiw books so I hope I make sense. Really this book is more like 3 1/2 but to counter the other overly hard reveiw I'm giving a four. This is Anne Stuart's first book and of course there are errors and it does not have the polish of her later work but it's still a better read than a lot of present day authors. I rather liked the female lead, she stood up for herself rather well if not always correctly. The plot was a bit rough and had some big holes. I did enjoy reading Anne Stuart's first book but then I found a copy at a yard sell. I also had no great expectations. I enjoy seeing how far a favorite auther has come.

You must be kidding me!,
By Zoe Paris (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Barrett's Hill (Paperback)
My mother and I both disliked this book to the point of making jokes like "This is what NOT to do in a book!" So I kept it all these years for a laugh once in a while. I am shocked to find it going for such a price online! It was truly a dreadful book. It's not historically accurate in a language or clothing sense, the writer seemed as if she did little research on the era. The character is unlikable and negative, a spoiled girl I felt no sympathy for. The writing style leaves much to be desired and at times I wonder if the author graduated school because her grammar and paragraph structure were so poor. I must say this book was unlikable on every level but I will always keep my copy because it's a GREAT writing tool if you want to know how to make a reader loathe a character! On the bright side (I don't want my review to come off too harsh) I will officially tag this book 'So bad it's good' and add: it's worth a read if you're into this kind of thing.
