WOW!!! This CD is the coolest, most innovative CD I've found since discovering Ozomatli and Carlos Vives. Although it's like neither, Celso Pina blends traditonal Columbian vallenato influence with a twist of Mexican flavors, and then some. With guest appearances by some of the more rock influenced artists out of Mexico, Celso puts a fresh new spin on musica vallenata...

To celebrate his 20 years of carrer Celso Pina, the godfather of Monterrey's Ballenato, teams up with a bunch of mexican rockers and gruperos. Some of the results are very good and some are just good in crosspolinating generes. The ballenato-heavy-dub-hiphop of "Cumbia Sobre El Rio" and the hard funk of "Cumbia Poder" (featuring "El Gran...

With guest appearances by some of the more rock influenced artists out of Mexico, Celso puts a fresh new spin on musica vallenata without sacrificing the beauty of his raw acoustic roots. From beginning to end and all the way to the sleeve, this is a true work of art for Mexico to showcase on the World Music scene. Both a tribute to Columbia and a triumph for Mexico, this CD leads the way for yet another wonderful hybrid in alternative Latin music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cumbia Poder, November 10, 2002

I love Celso Piña's style. A fussion between Cumbia and hip hop is definitely a great idea. His modern style of calssic Colombian Cumbia really relies on his talent. Unfortunately, not all his songs remain on this style. However, it is worth to buy. Cumbia Poder, which is my favourite mixes Vallenato, cumbia and rap, which is not really easy to do!. Celso and his Ronda Bogotá did a great job in performing Colombian cumbia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool cumbia, April 4, 2007

not your typical Cumbia. Some of it is pretty funky. Some of its kinda cheezy. Overall I liked about 2/3rds of the tracks. Especially the one thats on the Babel soundtrack.
