Lots of fun,

This review is from: Barris Kustoms of the 1960s (Paperback)
I have several books by Barris and this is by far the best.
It goes byond the film and TV cars and shows some of his other customs. Lots of great color photos (Barris is well known and appreciated for his period photos of his, and others, work) show you what was in style then with paint and interior styles as well as what was considered cutting edge in design. You see some customer cars (reworked show cars, John Wayne's Pontiac wagons, a neat 4 door Olds Toronado), a lot of photos of his now rarely seen work for Ford's "Custom Car Caravan", and even the accessories he marketed to new car dealers (mod vinyl tops...later to be offered as an option on some Chryslers...and a fiberglass styling kit for first-generation Firebirds, an early version of the body kits we see on tuner cars today). A lot of fun and a trip down memory lane for those into cars in the 60s, or a time capsule for those born later. I'd suggest this book as a "must have" if you're into customs of the past. You'll see, and learn, a great deal. |
