I would recommend this to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better, May 1, 2011
This review is from: Barron's AP Psychology with CD-ROM (Barron's AP Psychology Exam (W/CD)) (Paperback)
I am in the process of studying for the AP exam. I think that this book gives a great overview of all of the different topics. They are quick, but informative, and there are test questions specifically for each topic, so that was very helpful.

However, I am becoming increasingly frustrated with repeated questions. In one practice test, the exact same question was on their twice. I just took the one on the CD after taking all of the ones in the book, and I noticed a good amount of questions that I have already seen. There was one about systematic desensitization that I have seen on two separate tests.

Also, I have noticed a few contradictions in the book. For example, in the review part of the book it says that rational emotive behavior therapy is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapies "combine the ideas and techniques of cognitive and behavioral psychologists." Then, in a question in practice test 2, it asks "What kind of therapy involves both behavioral and cognitive interventions?" Rational emotive behavior therapy is an option, but not the correct answer because it is "strictly cognition." Now I'm just confused (good thing my AP test is tomorrow). I know it will not make or break my score, but it is still rather annoying.

Overall, really useful in providing an easy and organized way to review, but there are some aspects that could definitely be improved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barron's AP Psychology with CD, July 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Barron's AP Psychology with CD-ROM (Barron's AP Psychology Exam (W/CD)) (Paperback)
My son just finished the 10th grade. Midway through the year, he registered for an online Psychology class, not AP. We decided that it would be worth it to register for the AP Psychology test in May, knowing that his AP result could not hurt him and might help. Perhaps a month before the exam, we ordered this book.

There are two sample tests on paper and two on CD. These were great, because there was a table to key the missed questions to the subject areas. This helped to identify strengths and weaknesses. It is certainly easier to do this using the CD test, since the program tabulates that information for you; it is much quicker than manually scoring and matching up paper test results. If he uses an AP review book for any future classes, I would certainly pay the difference and get the CD.

The bottom line: he passed the AP exam. He was the only student in his online class, so no study partners, no class discussions, and not an AP course to begin with. I'm certain that taking the class was important, and provided the volume of information tested. But I think that this book helped him prepare to be tested, helped to fine tune areas where more study would help, and even provided some useful strategies (this was his first AP exam).

It was well worth the purchase price.

According to my daughter, this book lived up to expectations. It simplified some of the definitions and got right to the point. It also had a good overview of concepts to reinforce what was taught in class but in a simpler way. She felt very confident coming out of the test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barron's AP Psychology, November 13, 2011

I'm very glad I bought this product from Amazon. It is extremely helpful in the AP psych class I am taking. It's good for a review as we're learning the material, but it is also basically the AP test. It highlights things to keep in mind for the test and gives you tips. It's great. Amazon's service was awesome too. They charged a lot less than I thought it would cost. My teacher said each book would be $20 and they were only $10 each (I also bought the AP Barron's English Language and Composition). Anyway, this is a very smart investment. I hope you all do well on your test! Fingers crossed that I do too :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot say enough, July 9, 2011

Two years before taking the test I took Psych 1 at my high school. This year I decided to take the AP test hoping for college credit. With the help of Barron's AP Psych review, I was able to score a 5 on the test without taking the associated AP class. The review for each chapter is concise, but has all of the detail needed for the AP exam. I could be sure that with Barron's I had read over all of the information that would possibly be needed for the test. After looking through other review books, Barron's is the only way to go for this test. Well done and thank you.

I bought this book for a an AP Psychology class I was taking that it was required for. Perhaps the most impressive thing was that I ordered this on a Friday from amazon while on a trip out of state. I needed it the following Tuesday and despite using basic shipping for $4.00, it was at my door that Sunday. I had expected to not receive till that Monday or Wednesday at least, so I was relieved.

The review book itself was informative and thorough. I was glad that my teacher had picked such a comprehensive text as a review, because it did helped me study and feel comfortable taking the AP test. Nothing really notable stands out about the book, other than that it is dry. I will not hold this against the authors, because for the quantity of information it packs into relatively few pages, this book is a gold mine for test takers.

To close up, the CD enclosed does work, and on Mac OSX (if you have Flash player), but I did not use it. Upon trying it, the test taking experience on the CD seems sound, so if that's what you want go for it. If you are just looking for an AP Psychology review book though, this is it.

This didn't follow the curriculum for the AP Psych class at my son's high school at all. So it wasn't very helpful during the school year, in the way some of the other Barron's books helped all year long. But, it was helpful for the AP exam itself, especially the tests on the CD
