I got a five!,
This review is from: Barron's AP United States History (Paperback)
I used this book last year to help me study. It has a very helpful list of terms in the back that I studied. It is a good supplement for students who have taken a course in school and want to review for the test. The tips for essay writing were decent, although what I learned in class form my teacher was more helpful. The practice tests were definitely the best part. They were a pretty accurate reflection of what the test was really like. All in all, I would definitely recommend this book!

Ehhh, I've had better review books...,
This review is from: Barron's AP United States History (Paperback)
This book really focuses on the test and not so much content at all. There's barely any summary of the actual history, but if what you struggle with is the free response or document-based question then this may help you with your essay. Otherwise, go with 5 Steps to a 5, it's much more comprehensive.

More of a testing book than a review book.,

My daughter thought this book was good for testing, you need another book for "review". We HIGHLY recommend P U.S. History Crash Course: AP U.S. History Crash Course (REA: The Test Prep AP Teachers Recommend). I reviewed it on the Amazon site, but the net - it was amazing at predicting the questions/topics that would be on the test.

I would just like to say that I would NOT recommend this book as a study aid. If you are wishing to get an actual review of U.S. History content that you will have to know for the test, you should try a different book. (I like the Princeton or Kaplan books.) This book could be helpful of you want a lot of help writing essays, but it does a terible job of helping you study.
This is the only Baron's book I have ever used, and the others might be better, but I didn't like it at all.

Essay Prep Great, General Review Terrible.,

This book is only useful for reviewing how to write essays. This was helpful for me because the essays on the U.S History AP (APUSH) test are not very similar to those on the World History AP (WHAP) exam. However, if you are looking for something to help with what historical events you need to know, then this is the wrong book; each chapter will provide about a dozen topics per era that one will need to review in detail. For example, the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant is one topic that students must study from the period between 1850 and 1877, but the book provides no detail on the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant. You will be better off skimming through the sections of the APUSH textbook than you will be by buying this book and relying on it as a primary study tool. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ESSAYS AND HAVE A TEXTBOOK HANDY FOR THE GENERAL REVIEW!

My daughter finds this helpful along with the flash cards. This booklet provides a good summary of the main themes and the flash cards provide the details.

I was pleased with the book. My daughter has not really told me if it has helped her with her class or not, so I don't have much to go on, but the book is what I expected it would be when I ordered it.

I bought this book because I had used a Barron's review book for the AP World History exam and I was extremely pleased. However, this book was not what I expected. Anyone that has taken an AP exam or already knows the necessary essay skills for writing an essay should choose another book. Instead of outlining the content for each period, the book only gives sample questions and responses. The only organized/informative material is a brief summation in the back of the book. I am returning the book and do not recommend it to anyone that is looking to review the course material rather that learn how to write an essay.
