I ordered this book just to learn more about dogs in general. Then after I felt like I knew what I was doing I decided to rescue a dog. this book was just what we needed to help us set our dog up for success. I use it all the time. It covers how to train your dog in a manageable way. It was so easy to understand that I was able to teach my dog almost every trick in the book.

I just got this book as a Christmas gift and I am impressed with the plethora of training information included. And the photos are wonderful!!! As a dog lover and long time pet owner, I value positive training advice...which is what the author covers in this book. There is also a ton of information on understanding dogs and their body language which is helpful when training. I've been practicing the "Leave It" excercises in the Impulse Control chapter and I've already seen some improvement in my pup who has issues with impulses regarding food. I would definitely recommend this book!

Some of the information is great in this book. Some is not so much. The book is very biased towards 1 type of training and seeks to reiterate that point multiple times on every page in different words making it highly repetitive while offering little information to explore. Dogs are not 1 size fits all right? So we can't just use ONE method to train ALL dogs. If you really read the book objectively you'll see the hidden message is one training method described as many. Because of that this should not be the only book you get on dog training if you're getting a puppy or you're having behaviour issues with your dog. Try a few different books for a varied view to find the right method for you and your dog!
