I am very disappointed in how many errors I have found in the book.

Make sure to print up the FE reference handbook that you'll need for the test and get used to using the equations from the handbook and not from the text.
Alan R
I don't have time to be correcting answers in the solutions section.

The book itself is well structured, and written in a no-nonsense manner. I would emphasize that this is a review book; look elsewhere if you have not learned this material before as it does not go over concepts and relationships in depth. It is also assumed that you have a copy of the FE reference handbook, as there are many references to tables and formulae from it. The biggest problem with this book is the many mistakes and typos in it. I have caught numerous errors in formulas, in the answer key, and in problems. They lead to much confusion, and based solely on that, I cannot recommend this book.

This book has so many errors in it that it was actually painful to use. The errors in problem solutions and answer choices are simply unacceptable, especially from a brand name like Barron's. The errors lead to wasted time on trying to understand why you solved the question incorrectly, and eventually you come full circle to realize that you had it right all along. The attention to detail in this book is simply non-existent. I would not recommend this book to anyone unless you've run out of firewood.

Format: Paperback
The book's lay out is decent, with a chapter for each of the major subjects on the test, and there are plenty of practice problems as well.

One major disappointment is that the practice problems are riddled with errors, typos, etc. On some questions, the correct answer is not an answer choice, and on other questions, the worked out solution is wrong (either solving for a different variable than asked in the question, or a straight up wrong solution to the problem). Also, the answer key often provides a different answer than what the worked out solution says.

Overall, it gets the job done for under $20, but if you are using it to actually learn the material, you will be very very confused with all the errors. I would only recommend it if you are confident with your engineering knowledge and just want some practice problems to brush up with.

I am very disappointed in how many errors I have found in the book. This is book is full of great problems to work through but I spend most of my time going through a problem over and over to find the book has solved the problem wrong.

Good for review of topics and covers material well, although the fact that each section is written by different authors is noticeable and does get annoying. But any other FE review book will do the same thing, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! This book has SO MANY ERRORS! It gets to the point where if I get an incorrect answer, I automatically assume it's another error and I waste so much time trying to figure out where the book made the error. It is extremely frustrating and not worth the effort.

In short, this book has way too many errors, should not have gone to print like this. The editor should be fired.

Not much to say that hasn't been said already, but I needed to see to it that the 2.5-star rating currently enjoyed by this book gets another corrective nudge downward. This book is an abortion. I was nearly driven mad checking and re-checking my calculations against the books example problems that I naively expected to be correct.

Typos and erroneous calculations aside, this book also fails to match NCEES notation and uses problems several degrees of difficulty higher than can be expected on the actual exam.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.

As noted above the book is riddled with typos and errors that are confusing. Use it just for the practice problems. The reviews contained are garbage, the section on software is atrocious, the sections on thermodynamics are confusing and again filled with errors. Overall really disappointing and the authors in general should be ashamed with this inferior effort.

I've been using this book for several months putting in 1-2 hours a day and I have encountered the same problems as the others: multiple typos and incorrect solutions, also formulas don't appear the same way as in the NCEES Reference Handbook. The incorrect answers constantly had me second guessing my calculations and wasting far too much time only to realize that it must have been a typo. The biggest problem that I encountered was that after finishing the section I would go through the NCEES Reference Handbook and many of the equations in the book were similar but maybe not an immediately recognizable form and some equations were not in the Reference Handbook at all! This is dangerous because you may get to the test and think you will have some resource available only to be let down. I am going to search for another book to use.
