This newly updated directory describes 190 ABA-approved law schools as well as a selection of non-ABA-approved schools. Each profile presents admission requirements, the latest tuition figures and related fees, career placement services offered to graduates, and much more. A multi-page table lists each law school's median LSAT scores achieved by incoming students and summarizes each school's admission requirements. A section focusing on general advice for prospective law school students discusses ways to choose the best law school to fit each individual's needs and advises on how to get through the often-tough school admission process. The typical law school environment is also described with emphasis on its competitive atmosphere.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is an overview, not a specialty book..., October 28, 2007
This review is from: Barron's Guide to Law Schools: 17th Edition 2007 (Paperback)
Do not buy this book expecting detailed rankings on all of the schools. Do buy this book if you are thinking about applying to law school and want to know what schools are in your area or if you want to know where to spend your money with whatever specific LSAT score you are working with. There is a lot of good information in regards to the admission processes of law schools in general; however, the book often refers you to the school for specific information, which can become rather annoying when you buy a book for comprehensive information on the schools.

One thing that I found particularly annoying about this book was its hesitance to form any kind of opinion on any school. Instead, they revert to the "there is a school for everyone, and what school you choose really depends on what kind of school you are looking for" approach. This is not particularly useful when you are buying a book to find out where you want to go to law school. Stanford is a fantastic school, and to suggest that there are people who should choose Appalachian School of Law over Yale, Stanford, or Berkeley is an almost laughable attempt to cater to all corners of the law school market.

That aspect aside, if you would like to find the law schools in your region and decent amounts of information on their history and statistics, this is a good book. They also include a practice LSAT which is nice if you want to try an LSAT written by someone else other than your LSAT Practice book. There are also profiles of many non-ABA approved schools which is something you will not find everywhere else.

Bottom line: The school descriptions will become very repetitive, but you will find the LSAT and GPA statistics useful, as well as the bar passage rates. Tuition information is also quite useful. However, if I had it to do over again, I would probably read this book at the book store and pick up a book with some kind of ranking system.
