This review is from: Barron's How to Prepare for the Computer-Based Toefl Essay: Test of English As a Foreign Language (Paperback)
I liked this book very much because it has guided how to take step by step approach in writting essay. It tells us how to manage time & how to develope topic. Even there are sample essays for all topics of TOEFL.Punctuation rules were usefull for me.Identifying whether topic of essay is of type "agreeing or disagreeing" or "stating a preference" helped me lot. Although this is the only book in market on "Computer based toefl essay",it has everything we need to write in TOEFL.

Write an essay within 30 minutes? YES!,

This review is from: Barron's How to Prepare for the Computer-Based Toefl Essay: Test of English As a Foreign Language (Paperback)
Can you imagine an non-English-as-a-first-language person write an English essay within 30 minutes? I'm talking about planning, thinking, and typing, altogether within 30 minutes. Seems like mission impossible. But with the book, it's not that hard. I personally find the explanations of the four types that apear in TOEFL most useful. Now I can decide where to start my essay at first glance because I know what kind of topic it belongs. I also find the check list impressive. It oulines how a good essay should include and exclude. In my opinion, you can write an outstanding essay, too-if you follow the instructions in the book.

Want a 6.0 on your essay on the TOEFL-CBT?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Barron's How to Prepare for the Computer-Based Toefl Essay: Test of English As a Foreign Language (Paperback)
I leafed through this book to give me some idea on how to prepare for my TOEFL-CBT essay writing section and was pleased with my full score of 6.0! This helpful book that comes with 150 short sample essays, teaches you the rudimentaries of essay writing and development from the basic levels of English composition and grammar. Different charts and disgrams are displayed on how to develop your ideas you've brainstormed for the essay. Time is not on the side on the test-taker and it would do you well to be prepared in one way or another. This recommended guide will prove useful for both English and non-English test-takers. For the former, it might look too easy for those confident in the usage of the Englih language and would merely be a revision of what is being taught in schools. For the latter, a little more patience, time and a lot of English essay writing practice are needed. Begin with this inexpensive guide book. It might do you some good. I would suggest that the author and publisher come up with more challenging topics and essays though, and have the next edition of book printed on quality paper that can last a millenium.

Hey friends, this is for test preparation, not for English language learning; otherwise, it will call "English" not "TOEFL". Its grammer review sections are very good. It absolutely worth a buy.

I started preparing for toefl in April, but I had no idea how to prepare TWE. I was totally lost, and I didn't believe the method conducted by a lot of commercial toefl schools which suggests memorizing model essays. Luckily, I ran across Mr Lougheed's book on TWE in May. I told myself this was really what I was looking for. Moreoever, I found this website via the book. I forced myself to write two essays every week and post them here. I did it.I took toefl today. I am satisfied with my grade, especially I am satisfied that I wrote a complete essay all by my own words. I am here to express my thanks to Mr. Lougheed. And I hope that Mr. Lougheed's book can be published in China very soon, because there are a lot of toefl students are being misled to memorize model essays rather than write themselves. Honestly, this is a really good book. I recommend it highly to my friends who are preparing for TOEFL. Thanks for your help. Daojun Wang I finally got my score of TOEFL I took on July 5. I got an 4.0. I am so happy that my two months' hard work got paid. Thanks again, Mr. Loughheed. Daojun Wang

This is a good book for learning how to write a TOEFL essay. My main complaint about it is that the essays in the sample essay section (the last half of the book) are too good, most would score a 6. Since most TOEFL takers can't expect to score this high I would recommend the book be supplemented with the TOEFL POWERPREP software, which contains three sets of actual student essays scored 0-6. This way the writer can better judge what level they are writing at.
