5.0 out of 5 stars This product is terrific., August 27, 2009

I ordered four ONE POUND bags of this product and was extremely impressed by the way it was packaged. Very tightly packaged with very thick plastic. None of it had spilled or leaked during shipping. Furthermore, the product worked great for my project (tanning some animal skins). The price was right too. Barry Farms does a terrific job. I will certainly continue to order this and other products of theirs in the future. This was my first order with them, and I certainly will recommend them to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aluminating, July 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Good 1lb of Alum, food grade. The arrival date was a bit disheartening, set for the earliest more than 30 days after ordering, however it arrived within 2 weeks. I am using this Alum to make wallpaper paste: just google "care2 wallpaper paste". I have since checked out the Barry Farms Website, they have many quality products (also available on Amazon). In fact, I have already ordered two more products from them for use in preserving and yoghurt making. Needless to say selecting this product illuminated the world of Barry Farms, with all the good quality they have to offer.

I got it last night, and was excited. Just wanted to make some crystals, now first I boiled the alum in the water on the stove, that created a goo-y substance that was pretty fun. Didn't work for what I needed it for but it was entertaining, then I desolved it in hot water off the stove, much better (But not the cool goo-y thingie). Excited to see the Crystals I can get out of this stuff. Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dyeing wool, December 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Alum, 1 lb. (Misc.)
I needed alum for dyeing my hand spun wool with natural colors. I got the package delivered at home fine and on time, but only then realized that I got aluminium sulfate (Al2(SO4)3), instead of potassium aluminium sulfate ( KAl(SO4)2.12H2O). Those two have very different properties, and I cannot use aluminium sulphate in dyeing, because it does not open wool fibers as potassium aluminium sulphate does. According to Wikipedia, this is a common misnomer. Adding the chemical formula would have helped me a great deal and saved time. The package I was delivered did not have the chemical formula on it, it only had the name aluminium sulphate on it. Also, the chemical formula was not mentioned on the website at all. Proper naming would have made my life a lot easier.
The product itself was in very good condition when it arrived at home, and I was impressed how well it was packaged.

We have been buying a lot of Alum lately for use in our play dough recipe. It came in granular form, but I just boiled it into the water before using for the recipe.
Thank you for the good quality and price

I actually called Barry Farm about this product (questioning the granuals-not how it comes in the grocery store lol) The owner got back to me so quickly and was very knowlegable about his product.
