Very Romantic and Renewing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Barry Manilow (Audio CD)
I've just recently rediscovered this album (by the way, it's the same as the one titled "Please Don't Be Scared"), and have found that it's probably my favorite Barry Manilow album in total. The songs are so melodious and the lyrics are so poignant. It's the kind of music you find yourself singing or humming long after you've stopped listening to it. While some of the lyrics are slightly sad, they have the ability to convey the meaningfulness and the purposefulness of having courage and anticipating better days. The richness of Manilow's music is never better, underscoring and enhancing the words as only his melodies can do. A MUST HAVE for any hopeful romantic!

Barry At His Best,

I first heard the music on this album when Clive Davis put out an advance promotional tape (remember tape?). He was frustrated many younger listeners were writing Manilow off before even listening to his music. On the original release a sticker dared record store browsers to try the album and see if it wasn't the best thing they'd heard all year. This is a simply terrific album start to finish with exemplary songs, gorgeous orchestrations and Manilow at his best--expressive, honest, throughly musical and in gorgeous voice. The range of moods here is exemplary in that, though the songs are unrelated, the program holds together as a whole. Manilow has always been adept at taking songs others have recorded--in this case Streisand on "Some Good Things Never Last" and Anne Murray on "Anyone Can Do The Heartbreak"--and refashioning them with fresh results. He often rewrites lyrics or edits melodies to fit his own intentions. He's always interesting. This album has stood the test of time--it's still affecting, intriguing, melodic and important. Don't pass it up and, if I may, let's get in a plug for the "Mayflower" album, his Broadway-show-on-C.D. about life in an apartment building, his finest achievement ever and not to be missed.

it's Manilow...Please Don't Be Scared..,
This review is from: Barry Manilow (Audio CD)
I have never understood why Barry Manilow has a clearly divided impact on people. On the one hand you have all the critics and several millions of people who are quick to laugh at his music and him personally and then you have other critics and several millions of people who are quick to defend his music and buy it in the millions. I like his songs and i don't understand why hatred for him is so deep and ferocious. Oh well, it's their loss. This CD contains the wonderful "Please Don't Be Scared", "Keep Each Other Warm", "In Another World", and the sing-a-long songs "My Moonlight Memories of You", "The One That Got Away", and the dance song "Anyone Can Do The Heartbreak". This is a CD that all Manilow fans already have but you new ones under 35 {admit it} ought to seek this one out on-line because it can't be found in stores anymore. It was released in 1989.

This is the best album Barry Manillo has ever done. I could relate to almost every song. It is very rare that you can buy a album where all the songs are really good. I think this album is a very good investment. Try it.

A Great Pop cd,
By
This review is from: Barry Manilow (Audio CD)
Barry's wonderful voice delivers on this great set of pop ballads and mid-tempo songs. "You Begin Again" is beautiful, and 'The One That Got Away' has a Phil Spector sound to it, 'Please Don't Be Scared' one of Barry's most intimate vocals, 'Some Good Things Never Lasts'(also recorded by Barbra Streisand)is a song that really touched me, 'A Little Travelling Music, Please' has a great arrangement, one of the best songs Barry has ever recorded!, this is another great cd in the Barry Manilow catalog!

This album changed my music tastes forever...,

I was 14 when the likes of Rick Astley, Jason Donovan, Kylie et al had begun to nauseate me with their repetitive, formulaic jingles. Ready to move on to more mature music, I bought this album on the strength of a glowing review in a local magazine which carried the appealing phrase 'adult contemporary pop'. I guess it's safe to say I haven't looked back since.During this time not a single one of my friends had ever heard of Barry Manilow, much less find him 'icky' as so many seem to do. It wasn't long before a surprising number of my classmates were converted and became Barry fans. When he held a concert in Singapore a year later, we faithfully trooped down as a group and discovered to our amusement that we were easily the youngest fans in the 5000-strong crowd.

Barry Manilow has given me and my family many years of enjoyable listening hours. Just watched him on G.M.A. concert Friday and loved it. This title CD is terrific. He always writes music you can sing too.

Barry's Best,

I've liked Manilow stuff for years but this CD grabbed me from the beginning. I don't remember any of this music being hugely commercially successful (maybe I just missed it), but they definitely are among his best. No matter what my mood, I can listen to this CD and be either comforted or lifted up. I admit to my bias - but if you are a Manilow fan and don't have this CD don't wait another day.

I've been a major fan of Mr. Manilows for the last 25 years and have always thought him to be fabulous and very, very talented. But, over the years, he has gotten so much better and improved his style and every kind of music he has tried he has been successful at.
