5.0 out of 5 stars Great tasting - hot and cold!
Since its founding in Cork, Ireland, in 1901 Barry's Tea has been known for its excellence. Indeed, Barry's Tea now accounts for 34% of all tea sales in Ireland. This wonderful tea is a blend of mainly African teas with some Indian teas. It has a nice golden-brown color and a crisp aroma. But, the best thing about it is its taste!

Acceptable tea, with a light gold colouring, and weighty single bags. Despite the amount of tea per bag, the tea is not very strong, even with a long 5+min soaking. As such, it will not accept too much cream or sugar either. This is fine in itself, as the tea has a nice flavour, a blend of Assam and Kenyan teas. Its taste and strength are similar to PG Tips or more...

This is an excellent black tea, one which I enjoy every chance I get. Also, it not only tastes great hot, but it makes an excellent iced tea. So, if you are looking for a tea that tastes great hot and cold, then get Barry's Tea's Gold Blend. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best Tea in the World, June 10, 2008

Years ago,I was introduced to Barry's Gold Blend Tea by a priest from Ireland. Members of his family would ship it to him and he made some for me. It is simply the best tea in the world. This was before you could get a lot of products online and when I went off to college I had to live without it. I am delighted to now be able to have it shipped right to my door.

This is the best tea that there is. I'm totally addicted, starting from a visit to Ireland years ago. It's smooth, never bitter, and absolutely perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning: Very Highly Addictive, September 6, 2009

Like so many others, I had this tea on my first visit to Ireland.

After my first cup, I thought, "this is pretty good!"

After my second cup later, I thought, "this is pretty darn good."

The next day I bought a box to take home.

Then I started asking friends and co-workers to bring an extra suitcase on their trips to Ireland...

Over the next 20 years I heard the same story from many others here, "I asked a friend to bring an extra suitcase..."

I'm really happy that this tea is available here now, and my wife and I travel nowhere without bringing a sufficient supply of Barry's, as it really brightens our day in a way that is unmatched by any other tea (or coffee for that matter).

This is the "tea bag" version, so some loose leaf tea drinkers may suspect that the bags are filled with floor sweepings, as seems to be the case with many other tea bags.

Not so, this is the good stuff (although if you want the hassle, you can get this in loose-leaf).

I prepare it in a Krups coffee maker (this and a few others have the correct water temperature), set a timer for 6 minutes in good water (Brita faucet filtered, which beats bottled Mountain Spring water for taste, really, and costs $0.10 per gallon).

Don't follow my example and be led into a life-long addiction, stay away from this tea!

:O)

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for Iced Tea, July 13, 2009

We had some at home, but I don't know where it came from, but on a whim I tried it for making a quick glass of ice tea (instead of a Lipton bag). In a rush, I made a mug of tea, let it cool a while then poured it into a big cup of ice. I am overwhelmed at how good it was. Not bitter at all (like the Lipton usually is) and a sort of natural sweetness (I take my ice tea unsweetened). What a treat! I am going to get more of Barry's for my ice tea and will try it as a morning hot tea as well.

As such, it will not accept too much cream or sugar either. This is fine in itself, as the tea has a nice flavour, a blend of Assam and Kenyan teas. Its taste and strength are similar to PG Tips or more closely Typhoo. Makes a pleasant, late evening tea, but was expecting more out of this popular Irish blend. For those preferring a much stronger, darker tea you may want to find another brand.

My poor husband can't find a decent tea 'in the States'. Our local grocery stopped importing from Ireland some time ago. My Mom bought Barry's as part of a gift basket for him and he's never looked back. I can only hope that there is enough in stock to keep him happy!

This tea is simply the best. My sister brought some back from a foreign exchange trip, and when we had finished the box I had to have more. It's nothing fancy, just really good tea.

If you want a quality tea that is the daily choice of the Irish, this is for you. It is bold. Drink like the Irish do with sugar and milk. I got so used to my daily "fix" while working in Dublin for a month that I was delighted to find it online when I had depleted the supply brought back with me.
