3.0 out of 5 stars Moaning at the Bars, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Bars of Hate (DVD)
Poverty Row programmmer BARS OF HATE is directed by Albert Herman. He also supervised dozens of "Mickey McGuire" shorts featuring child star Mickey Rooney.

SYNOPSIS--
After Ted Clark (Toomey) rescues purse snatcher Danny (Pollard) from an angry mob, he returns the stolen handbag to its rightful owner, Ann Dawson (Terry). Ann has evidence that her imprisoned brother is an innocent man; she also knows the name of the actual killer: Jim Grant (Warwick). This information gets Ann in trouble with Grant. Ted and Danny come to her rescue.

ALPHA VIDEO is a provider of vintage programming that's often unavailable elsewhere. Their prices are fair, but so is transfer quality of some of their offerings. None have undergone restoration, yet this product's rareness and an honest price make it a worthwhile purchase.

Also from ALPHA:
Early commercial avaiation film MURDER IN THE CLOUDS (1934) stars Lyle Talbot and Ann Dvorak in a story of intrigue and homicide!

Parenthetical number preceding title is 1 to 10 viewer poll rating found at a film resource website.

(5.1) Bars of Hate (1935) - Regis Toomey/Shelia Terry/Molly O'Day/'Snub' Pollard/Robert Warwick/Fuzzy Knight

CAST TRIVIA--

Character actor REGIS TOOMEY's nearly 50 year career included roles in dozens of TV series. He was a close friend of Ron and Nancy Reagan.

SHEILA TERRY was in several early John Wayne westerns. She abruptly quit show biz in 1938 after only six years and 42 films.

MOLLY O'DAY began in silent Our Gang shorts as a teen and was done with movies by age 24.

FUZZY KNIGHT was an eccentric vaudeville musician who played with great exaggeration a miniature piano.

Aussie-born 'Snub' Pollard appeared in almost 500 silent and sound films, often as an uncredited 'extra.' In SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (1952), a soaking wet Gene Kelly hands his umbrella to Pollard at the end of the song.

ROBERT WARWICK starred on Broadway in 1922 in "Drifting." One fellow cast member was newcomer Humphrey Bogart. In 1950, Bogie gave Warwick a prominent role in his film noir IN A LONELY PLACE.
