5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful concept September 15, 2013

Ok, this is officially my favorite puzzle game so far of Free Apps of the Day. The reason why is that you draw your own game board to solve each puzzle as you try to direct granules of sugar into cups.

Not only do you have to figure out the right paths to draw, but you need decently good timing and some ingenuity too. You also have to take care how you draw your paths, as a little curve in your drawing style can become a hump that the sugar granules cannot roll past. Leave a path drawn a bit short and you waste your limited supply of sugar in spillage.

The game is challenging and funny both at the same time. It's a clever concept delightfully realized in this game.

I played it in a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 with no issues.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars back to the drawing board September 15, 2013

This is a great game that requires you to use your drawing skills to solve puzzles. Each level has something that looks like a comma from which pours a stream of sugar, and one or more coffee cups which are the targets you must direct the sugar into. You have to use your finger to draw the structures needed to direct the sugar into the cups. The various levels have different pre-existing objects that you must contend with, and you can draw whatever you want to add to the game board to get the sugar to the right place. Some levels are made more complex with filters that change the color of the sugar as it falls through and target cups that need one color or the other. The cups have a number which indicates how much sugar they need to be full; any more sugar will bounce off the cup and be wasted if you are not careful.
The graphic design of Sugar, sugar is also appealing in a very minimalist way. The simple two color scheme of each level includes the name and number of the level in a large font that becomes part of the game board; you can get your sugar stuck within the crevices of the words "level 2" - a wonderful bit of visual humor.
I highly recommend this game for those who want to use their creativity in solving puzzles.

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoying this September 15, 2013

This is a lot of fun. I like simple apps that keep the focus on the challenge and not bells and whistles. Both this app and Factory Balls do that. I also like that I can do this with my kids, and we can puzzle it out together. No glitches on my Fire HD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Sugar, Sugar! September 15, 2013

I NEVER write reviews, but I had to for this game! At first I thought this would be a simple, mindless game to just pass the time here and there. I couldn't have been more wrong! This game is challenging and requires quick thinking, patience, and creativity. Each level challenges you even further, which in turn leads to an addiction to this crazy, wonderful game. I am currently on level 23, and I just downloaded it a couple of hours ago. My biggest concern is that I won't be able to put it down tonight, and I will have to figure out a path for the sugar which leads directly to a large pot of coffee tomorrow morning!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept September 15, 2013

This is a gravity-based game with an unusual concept. It is definitely worth downloading as the FAOTD. I don't know that I like it enough to think it worth paying for, but others might. It took me a while to figure out how to draw the lines to direct the sugar flow - I kept drawing the line directly from the spout at first - which blocks the flow. Once I did figure it out, it's pretty interesting. Looking at the screenshots in the App Store also helps. It gets quite challenging pretty soon. You not only have to figure out how to get the sugar to flow into the different cups, you have to time everything exactly right and draw the lines in the right places and as smoothly as possible. I am at around Level 12 and enjoying it so far, but if it gets too difficult for me to figure out after multiple tries, I'll probably lose interest. I don't think they provide any hints or solutions.

For the reviewer who put down other reviewers for complaining that there's no eraser - there isn't an eraser in GAME mode, only in SANDBOX (free play) mode. In game mode, you're stuck with whatever lines you draw until you start over.

**** WARNING - SPOILER ALERT *** HINT FOLLOWS SO STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT ANY HINTS *****************************************************

At first I was completely baffled about how to get sugar to flow through the color filters and into the cups when the filters are BELOW the cups (without the reverse gravity). Then I realized that the sugar that falls to the floor will eventually reappear at the top and start falling from the ceiling. (Same thing happens in reverse when the reverse-gravity button is on).

This game is just plain fun. I would have gladly paid $0.99 it had it not been the FAOTD. The developer took a few concepts we all are intuitively familair with and made a very entertaining game.
