5.0 out of 5 stars Memoirs of Frank H. Bartholomew, June 23, 2007

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
As reporter, war correspondent and president of United Press International, Frank Bartholomew has covered major news events form the 1925 Santa Barbara earthquake through the Pacific battles of World War II to the "fail safe" patrols of modern American Bombers. In his recollections of more than two generations of journalism, the famous figures of the world march through these pages of his Memiors like shadowy giants of the past brought to life ... General Douglas MacArthur, Chiang Kai Shek, Winston Churchill, Omar Bradley, and Duchess of Windsor, William Randolph Hearst, Lord Mountbatten, Ina Clair, Charles Scripps, Roy Howard.

Who else has been on board the USS Missouri to witness the surrender of the Japanese and also written movie captions for Gloria Swanson? Who else has done his part to cool the tempestuous temperament of actress Ina Clair and also received the Roy Howard Award for superlative achievements in journalism? Who else has published his own newspaper in his early teens and gone on to become president of an international news service?

These pages record milestones in journalism from the telegraph key with its Prince Albert can as resonator to the astonishing transmission of news by satellite.
