Product Description

The Bartelt Crumb Box keeps countertops clean while slicing crusty bread, as crumbs fall through the grates into the box. This crumb box is great for recipes tat call out breadcrumbs because the box stores them up in a tidy container. The removable grid allows easy access and can also serve as a trivit. This crumb box is hand-made of bamboo with box joint construction and with a hard wood grid for everyday use.

I really liked the idea of a crumb catching box. Homemade bread is messy! Unfortunately, we ended up giving our box to a thrift store just a couple of weeks after we received it. It took up too much counter space and it wasn't practical to put it away and get it out again between uses--the crumbs would fall out.

The other problem is that when we cut our bread some of the crumbs would fall into the slots provided but plenty of crumbs would also spray onto the counter. Thus we still had to clean the countertop. For our needs, a large cutting board that we can put away between uses works better.

I cool my bread on this as well as cut on it once it is cool. An added bonus is the healthy crumbs I gather which I use to bread chicken, turkey breasts, etc., with a little added seasoning. Store bought bread crumbs have lots of extra ingredients which aren't necessarily good for you.
