I really liked the idea of a crumb catching box. Homemade bread is messy! Unfortunately, we ended up giving our box to a thrift store just a couple of weeks after we received it. It took up too much counter space and it wasn't practical to put it away and get it out again between uses--the crumbs would fall out.

The other problem is that when we cut our bread some of the crumbs would fall into the slots provided but plenty of crumbs would also spray onto the counter. Thus we still had to clean the countertop. For our needs, a large cutting board that we can put away between uses works better.

It is really nice to have this product for my home made bread. I use it everyday and love it!

I cool my bread on this as well as cut on it once it is cool. An added bonus is the healthy crumbs I gather which I use to bread chicken, turkey breasts, etc., with a little added seasoning. Store bought bread crumbs have lots of extra ingredients which aren't necessarily good for you.

In summary, I think this product would be great with an integrated fresh storage, like a big cover over the whole thing. After all, it should work well with fresh baked bread.

It collects the crumbs as purported, but you must regularly harvest them into some container, if like me you fear your bread crumbs being 50% dust. I wish I could just leave them there.

If this thing had a cover for the bottom portion, or even better a cover that would keep the bread fresh on it, as well as the crumb tray, it would require a lot less effort. As it is, you will need to store your bread elsewhere, and collect the crumbs, a tiny chore for the lazy cooks like me. I really am not so lazy; It is just that I love efficiency and multitasking products that help me do more in my small apartment!

The quality and finish are very nice on this unit. Bamboo is environmentally sound, strong and light. I will attempt to buy or make a lid that fits it and a massive loaf of bread machine bread so I can use it as storage for the bread loaf simultaneously and keep the crumbs from dust and dirt. Maybe I can make some and sell them on marketplace!
