5.0 out of 5 stars Jones gets eclectic, January 26, 2003
This review is from: Bartender's Blues (Audio CD)
on this 1978 album, which sounds dated and is now-forgotten, Jones shows us some eclectic style shifts and dazzles us with funky Blues infected rockers like "When Your Phone Don't Ring It'll Be Me", "I Ain't Got No Business Doin' Business Today", and "I Don't Want No Stranger Sleeping In My Bed". side one opens up with traditional honky-tonk and country sounds ( "I'll Just Take It Out in Love", "I Gave It All Up For You", "Ain't Your Memory Got No Pride at All?", "If You Loved a Liar" plus "Bartender's Blues"). side two is where he gets funky with the ones i mentioned earlier. a novelty song on this album is the insane "Leaving Love All Over the Place", which tells the wicked story of two people who love each other... "Julianne" closes out this great album of eclectic songs all did in Jones' distinct delivery. i love this album and i'm probably in the minority when i say that. open your mind and forget about the instrumentation for awhile and listen to him deliver the goods.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great George Jones album, April 27, 2009
This review is from: Bartender's Blues (Audio CD)
George Jones
"Bartender's Blues"
(Epic, 1978)
-------------------------------------
One of George Jones' last great records of the 1970s, recorded just before a precipitous slide into a tragic personal disintegration. The title track, a duet with folkie James Taylor, is a classic. The album has plenty of other great songs, including the mournful "I'll Just Take It Out In Love" and "(When Your Phone Don't Ring) It'll Be Me". Great stuff!
