Written ebulliently by an acclaimed pianist who's been there done that, lends definitive veracity to this guide. This is the ideal technical and interpretative Bartok manual for advanced pianists. Her detailed coverage of style, form and structure makes it useful for the listener too if you can read music and follow Nissman's copious music examples. An inset CD of music examples played by Nissman and a full discography of Bartok's own recorded performances (many now restored on to CD) are added bonuses.
