I think Deborah Wall has hiked every one of these trails and her articles make you want to hike them too. There are clear directions both to the trailhead and for the hikes, as well as difficulty ratings. The cover photo is of Lovell Narrows (or Anniversary Narrows), a stunning slot canyon near Lake Mead and not far from Las Vegas. This book is a major reference book at our house.

I bought this book my first weekend after I moved to Las Vegas. At first it was pretty helpful finding nearby places to explore but after a few weekends I found myself regretting the purchase.

Pros: Beautiful color pictures throughout the book, makes it very attractive at a glance.

Cons: No maps. Few hikes over 5 miles. Neglects some stellar hiking opportunities in the Vegas Area. Most hikes in the book are at locations packed with tourists.

All in all this book is a good resource for tourists or people with small children who want to hike for a few hours and go home/back to the hotel. If you are a serious hiker/backpacker who really wants a challenge or wilderness experience (i.e. something that takes more than a half day) I would steer away from this book.
