Few cities can boast as rich a baseball history as Baltimore. With longtime entries in the majors, minors, and Negro Leagues, the city's core of faithful fans have seldom lacked a team to root for. They revel in the feats of their stars (Keeler, Ruth, Palmer, Ripken) and just as ardently support the endless line of everyday players who often determine the teams' fates. Minor leaguers such as Merwin Jacobson, Howie Moss, and Jack Ogden had little impact in the major leagues but will be remembered forever for what they did for Baltimore.

This book provides a wonderful slice of baseball history. The photos are well chosen and very evocative. The narrative provides a useful guide. I think this book would be well liked by any baseball history buff.

Tom Flynn has compiled a wonderful array of vintage photographs telling the story of Baltimore's colorful baseball past. I am not a baseball fan but still enjoyed this book. Fan or not, no one can deny that baseball plays an important part in the American story. Tom does an excellent job of telling Baltimore's slice of baseball history.

Wonderful book recalling Baltimore baseball, especially during a time of innocence in baseball history. Interesting facts, photos and a great start to the book with the forward by Examiner writer Sean Welsh. Bravo!
