Gr. 1^-2. The text is on the long side, but new readers probably won't mind once they get into the story of a new boy who messes up on the baseball field. He decides to have a baseball party to show the kids he really is a good player, but the invitations accidentally go into a box labeled "litter" not "letters," and for a while it seems as if no one is coming to the party. Colorful art featuring a multiethnic group of kids adds to a story that is a bit more dimensional than many in the genre.
